AI: Doomerism or Communism? | A World on Fire #21
Artificial intelligence has forced its way into our lives, bringing a wave of anxiety, soaring energy costs, climate destruction , job insecurity, and dystopian military applications. But are we actually doomed, or is the real problem not the technology itself, but the billionaires and profit-driven systems controlling it? In this episode we dive deep into the AI boom, data centres, the arms race, and why so many young people are feeling a sense of doom.
AI and the state: how big tech bought the data centre boom
East Havering, Epping, Elsham, Brick Lane, Blyth, Beaconsfield, Blackpool. All are set to see the building of new data centres. Ever wonder where they are all suddenly coming from? The UK is planning a massive expansion of data centers across the country, with nearly 100 new facilities expected by 2030. Two of these are expected to have higher UK carbon emissions than ExxonMobil! The British state is greasing the wheels of big tech.
Ed Miliband’s Palestine Statement Changes Nothing! | A World on Fire #20
In light of Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband’s “harsh” words for Israel this week, we ask: Why this seeming about-turn from Labour? What makes them feel they can make such statements, call extremist settlers terrorists, and impose sanctions on these settlements? Our job as communists is not to be impressionistic or to be overawed by so-called changes in policy, but to point out the real interests underneath.
The Future MUST Be Communist | A World on Fire #19
Facebook Twitter/X Reddit WhatsApp Messenger Email Print We started this podcast a year ago and said in our first ever introduction: it’s time to get real and get revolutionary. Demanding the whole earth and striving for the “impossible” is the only realistic way forward for young people today. In this episode, we cover the Gen-Z revolts that took place this summer, why communism isn’t utopian, how the left has failed to capitalise on young people’s anger, and what we intend to build instead.
Dolly Parton (1946-2026): A universally-loved country music icon
Most of us can remember exactly where we first heard Dolly Parton in the backseat of a parent’s car, at a kitchen table, on the radio. Her voice was warm, funny, aching, and entirely without pretension. Across a career spanning more than six decades, Parton wrote thousands of songs – over 3,000 – forming a body of work so vast it’s easy to forget she was just one person.
Communists discuss: Who REALLY runs Britain?! | A World on Fire #17
After a short hiatus, we are back delivering analysis and a Marxist perspective on the inner workings of the British state and British capitalism. Trapped in an age of political spectacle and impotence, the system is driving increasing frustration for both the ruling class and, most importantly, the working class.
The EVIDENCE that PROVES Britain’s Role in the Nakba | A World on Fire #16
We begin this season by connecting the dots between a capitalist ruling class responsible for the historic crimes of the Nakba and the crises of today: racism, war, and poverty. This is why the RCP is launching an all-out assault on British capitalism, calling to wipe out the Epstein class. In this episode, we discuss: – The UK’s Role in the Nakba: Why the ruling class and the racist right (then and now) including Tommy Robinson continue to promote Zionism.
Fiona Lali: ‘The world is on fire – let’s put capitalism out of its misery!’
Welcome to the world in 2026, where it turns out, things can always get worse. Every day we awake to devastating news about rising bills, war crimes, corruption, and scandals. The world feels like it is in neverending chaos. And that is because it is! You can’t catch a break. There is no stability, peace, justice or any semblance that you can fulfil a meaningful life. And at the head of this world sits the Epstein class.
COMMUNISM VS LIBERALISM: How to fight racism | A World on Fire #15
Facebook Twitter Reddit WhatsApp Messenger Email Print In this special extended episode, Khaled and Fiona dive into your questions and comments from social media as we build momentum for the March 28 ‘Together Alliance’ march in London. We’re digging into the systemic roots of racism and explain the WHOLE capitalist class are promoting these divisive ideas. Why did BLM reach a dead-end? More importantly we look at how the class struggle can be used to fight racism in Britain and beyond.
Elleanna Chapman’s ‘Attack of the 50 Foot Comrade’
Earlier this year, a spectre haunted the Saatchi Gallery – in the form of a three-metre tall Beyoncé, diligently selling the very first issue of The Communist. This new artwork, titled Attack of the 50 Foot Comrade, made by myself, Elleanna Chapman, was on display at the gallery in London from 29 January – 1 February 2026. Art and revolution I am both an artist and an active member of the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP).
Capitalism has created the manosphere! | A World on Fire #14
Facebook Twitter Reddit WhatsApp Messenger Email Print To mark International Working Women’s Day, we’re tackling your questions head-on. From the rise of the “manosphere” to the persistence of misogyny on social media, we explore why the fight for women’s liberation often feels like it’s moving in reverse. Is the war between the genders inevitable? We don’t think so. We discuss how these divisions can be overcome through collective struggle.
The War in Iran: WHY IS BRITAIN INVOLVED?! | A World on Fire #13
As events escalated in the Middle East over the weekend, Britain found itself unceremoniously dragged into another criminal conflict. Despite Donald Trump’s evident contempt for “Sir” Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister has fallen right in line behind the latest US-Israeli attack on Iran. Trump has signaled that he views Britain not as a ‘Churchill’ but as a third-rate power with little choice but to follow the US lead.
The Epstein class: Capitalism’s greatest scandal! | A World on Fire #12
The Epstein files have finally lifted the veil on the most prolific grooming gang in the history of capitalism. While figures like Keir Starmer attempt to wash their hands of the fallout, the reality is clear: this grubby network of businessmen, bankers, royals, and billionaires isn’t an anomaly. It is a core feature of the day-to-day running of the capitalist state.
Will Farage be Britain's Trump?
With the political centre in collapse and Labour struggling to maintain an image of control, we discuss to what extent Nigel Farage can truly emulate the Trump model. Meanwhile, a major showdown looms in Gorton and Denton between Reform and the Greens. As many ask if Farage is "Britain’s Trump," we examine whether the Green Party’s message of "Hope" is enough to halt Reform’s momentum.
Is Britain’s working class too weak to carry out a revolution?
Over the past century, British capitalism has undergone an inglorious decline. What was once the world’s largest empire and most dominant power has been reduced to a third-rate power. The reason for Britain’s success was its powerful industrial base. The British capitalist class invested their profits into revolutionising industry, making it the most competitive economy on the world market. As a result, Britain produced the most powerful working class in the world.
RCP Wrapped 2025
Facebook Twitter Reddit WhatsApp Messenger Email Print A genocide in Gaza, a collapsing Labour government, a Gen-Z revolutionary wave, Trump’s tariffs, the largest far-right demo in Britain, half a million out for Palestine (twice!). 2025 has been another year of chaos and turmoil. As 2026 dawns, Trump is threatening war in Latin America, NATO faces a humiliating defeat in Ukraine, an AI bubble grows ever larger, and Keir Starmer faces a plethora of backstabbers seeking to usurp his premiership.
Chaos on the bond markets – what does this mean? | The Communist
The pressure is piling up on the government as the Autumn Budget approaches. And the financial markets are turning the screw, with the price of government bonds jumping and falling in response to every new announcement by the Chancellor. But what does all of this mean? What does the bond market have to do with tax rises or public sector cuts? The complicated economic jargon used by the press to explain the state’s finances feels like it is designed to be as confusing as possible.
Why I AM a communist! | A World on Fire #8
Facebook Twitter Reddit WhatsApp Messenger Email Print As the White House launches its Anti-Communist Week, the right wing seems increasingly puzzled by one question: why are so many young people in the West drawn to communist ideas? And, why is their propaganda not working?
The West's Blood-soaked Record
The end of the Cold War was meant to usher in an unprecedented era of world peace. Yet, three decades of endless conflict have instead left a trail of destruction and barbarism across the globe. Far from being peacemakers, the Western powers carry a blood-soaked record that speaks for itself. Now, as tensions rise once again in Latin America, Ukraine, and the Middle East, we ask: Why do capitalists go to war?
Make the left communist again! | A World on Fire #6
This week we ask: why is the left seemingly incapable of fighting the right wing? It is not simply a question of weak organisation or a lack of working-class support for a left-wing programme. The deeper issue is that the left, as it currently exists, is organically incapable of solving the problems of the working class because it refuse to lay the blame on the capitalist system.
The death of feudalism and the rise of the bourgeoisie
How often have we been told that capitalism is the most ‘rational’ social system? That its very existence is its own justification? The bourgeoisie repeats Hegel’s dictum, “all that is real is rational” – i.e. whatever exists must do so for a reason, and so is unavoidable. Yet capitalism itself is not eternal. It arose out of the transformation of feudalism: a mode of production defined by nobility, localism, serfdom, and perpetual warfare.

Is Neoliberalism DEAD?! | A World on Fire #5
Neoliberalism ; it’s the ideology said to be at the root of all our problems, right? It’s a popular buzzword, but what does it actually mean? What historical conditions gave rise to it, and can we really trace all of Britain’s issues back to the premiership of Margaret Thatcher?
Britain's Austerity Generation | A World on Fire #4 | The Communist
Facebook Twitter Reddit WhatsApp Messenger Email Print Austerity has shaped the lives of young people in Britain today, alongside huge political earthquakes. This generation has grown up surrounded by war, the pandemic and the cost of living crisis – in this episode, we discuss how British capitalism is making the youth revolutionary. TWO YEARS OF GENOCIDE: Time to strike!| A World on Fire #3
Facebook Twitter Reddit WhatsApp Messenger Email Print From France to Italy, we’ve seen huge general strikes erupt against austerity and the continued warmongering of the European ruling classes. We discuss how such strikes could be built here in Britain — and the leading role students could play by drawing on the history of May ’68. BLOCK EVERYTHING for Palestine!| A World on Fire | Episode 2
Facebook Twitter Reddit WhatsApp Messenger Email Print In this episode, we explore the rising Gen Z revolution spreading from Madagascar and Peru to Morocco, and look at how students and workers across Europe are spontaneously mobilizing to challenge the war machine. We also discuss the intensifying occupation of the West Bank and the urgent need for escalating tactics. Here in Britain, we examine the role of trade unions and outline how we can strengthen the movement to help halt the genocide.
Trump at the United Nations
“He who laughs has not yet heard the bad news.” – Berthold Brecht They sat there in stunned silence, petrified, like a row of stone statues staring at their highly polished footwear. They resembled nothing less than a group of naughty children, suffering the pitiless admonishments of a sadistic headmaster in a draughty school assembly room. But this was no schoolroom, but the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday.
Introducing 'A World on Fire': Our brand-new podcast
It’s time to get real — and to get revolutionary. The Gen-Z revolution is underway, the world is on fire, and the old system is crumbling. The Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) will follow this process as it unfolds across Britain and the globe, exposing what the bourgeois media hides and fears. Each episode brings uncompromising Marxist analysis, revealing the class forces at play and the decisive role communists must take in leading the fight for revolution.
Communists discuss: "Is Starmer's time up?"
The monster ‘Unite the Kingdom’ demonstration on Saturday 13 September marks a turning point. This was an embarrassing defeat for the left, and the blame lies at the feet of the reformist left leaders, and so-called ‘Marxist’ Socialist Workers Party.
RCP Central committee report: Building a force to be reckoned with
After a summer characterised by big political events, such as ‘rebellions’ in parliament over austerity, state repression of the Palestine movement, and the announcement of a new left party, the autumn is not looking to be any different. Crisis is embedded in every aspect of capitalism, and it’s having a radicalising effect on consciousness. Especially on the youth, in which an increasing layer is open towards communism. Many of them are wanting to get organised when going into universities.
France: Let’s block everything! For a workers’ government!
Barring any dramatic developments, the Prime Minister of France Bayrou will fall on 8 September. Only political suicide on the part of the MPs of the Socialist Party could save this deeply unpopular government. For the time being, the leader of the Socialist Party Olivier Faure and his friends are not willing to take this step.
Letters: Families, football, and futures in crisis
Childcare crisis compels grandparents As a grandpa I love spending time with my grandkids, but it does not always feel like a choice. For the past seven years I have taken care of the two grandkids who live locally from the age of six months to pre school. This being for around ten hours to assist their parents, one who works daily and one who is a recently qualified nurse on shifts. With both parents working it was still too costly to put the children into a nursery full time.
Under a false flag: How the Communist Party of Great Britain defended Stalin’s pact with Hitler
In August 1939, the Soviet Union (despite its degeneration) remained a symbol of revolution and socialism for millions of workers around the world. In Britain, the Communist Party (CPGB) had around 17,500 members and was a significant force in the workers’ movement in Britain. Both the CPGB and the international workers’ movement were thrown into chaos, however, with the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.
Russia emerges strengthened from Ukraine war, with profound implications for western imperialism
“Europe is going to pay in a BIG way, as they should, and it will be your win”, NATO General Secretary Mark Rutte boasted to Donald Trump. Indeed, the NATO alliance of western imperialist powers agreed to up their ‘defence’ spending to five percent of GDP over the next decade, at their recent summit in The Hague. The European arms industry bosses were no doubt delighted.
Palestine movement under attack – down with state repression! | The Communist
Met police clamps down on right to protest On Saturday 9 August, over 500 peaceful protesters were shackled, thrown in police vans, and arrested. Their crime? Holding placards declaring support for Palestine Action. Over half of the arrestees were over 60 years old, many were cuffed and left to sit in the baking sun without any water, others were dragged into ‘bully vans’ and a blind man was amongst those arrested.
Capitalism has nothing to offer young people: Fight for a communist future!
“In despair, the young are turning towards communism.” So laments columnist Seb Payne, writing in The Sunday Times. This establishment hack warns that without a “viable capitalist alternative”, such ideas will “enjoy a moment in the sun”. But it’s capitalism – not communism – that has already had its moment in the sun. Now it has shrivelled into dust, having burnt through the last of its historical legitimacy.
Forged amid global turmoil: the first World Congress of the Revolutionary Communist International
We are living through an unprecedented crisis of capitalism. Inequality is at record levels. There are currently more wars than at any point since WW2. And the world economy is mired in stagnation, inflation, and crushing debt. Now, with the re-election of Trump, the entire edifice of the post-war order – of unchallenged American dominance – is beginning to crumble.
Netanyahu and Jolani are jointly driving Syria to an abyss
Last week, the jihadist regime of al-Jolani orchestrated another pogrom. Those targeted were members of the Druze minority in Syria’s southern Suweida province. Using this as an excuse, Israel dropped enormous bombs on the headquarters of the defence ministry and sites near the presidential palace in Damascus. Both Jolani and Netanyahu are creatures of western imperialism. Now both of them, each in their own way, are pushing the country to the abyss of renewed sectarian barbarism.
MAGA’s civil war over Epstein scandal
The cracks in Trump’s cross-class coalition are growing into a chasm. Wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, the failure of Trump’s trade war, a sluggish economy headed for disaster, and persistent inflation have fractured MAGA. Now the Jeffrey Epstein scandal threatens to tear it apart. Child sex trafficking has been one of the MAGA base’s central concerns from the very beginning.
Letters: Policing by ‘discontent’
‘Safeguarding’ children or bosses’ profits? In my work safeguarding children and young adults, I attended a conference in Lincolnshire this week. Out of all the people there – training providers, guest speakers, education senior leadership, the police, and workers in various roles – not one person thought that young people could be kept safe in our society as it is today.
Letters: Faith, fury, and the failures of capitalism
“Sigh of the oppressed creature” I’ve recently noticed a head-scratching trend: young people in the West, particularly Gen Z males, are bucking the long-standing shift toward non-religiosity. In response, some media outlets have rushed to explain this away by blaming young men’s supposed lack of education or even attributing it to the influence of Andrew Tate.
Readers recommend: ‘Beyond the Wall’ – The censored success of East Germany | The Communist
In her book Beyond the Wall: East Germany, 1949-1990, East German-born historian Katja Hoyer does her part to bust the myth of capitalism’s unique and divine ability to produce the best living standards. Hoyer details how in the German Democratic Republic (GDR), East Germans had universally available housing, rewarding and secure jobs, and an affordable and widespread childcare programme. At the time of its demise in October 1990, it had the best female employment statistics in the world.
A year in power: Welcome to the Starmer shitshow
The Labour leaders’ attempt to cut welfare benefits has exposed the rottenness of this Starmer government. On the first anniversary of its 2024 election victory, Starmer’s Labour is reeling in crisis, despite its massive parliamentary majority. Starmer made every effort to force through savage cuts in welfare payments to the most vulnerable in society. These would have put hundreds of thousands in desperate hardship.
Disability, capitalism, and communism
Following the threat of a rebellion of Labour MPs, Starmer’s government has been forced to scale back its planned cuts to Personal Independence Payment (PIP), the UK’s main disability benefit. Any future changes to PIP will now depend on a review led by the Social Security and Disability Minister, Sir Stephen Timms.
RCP Central Committee report: Forging the general staff of the revolution
While Kneecap and Bob Vylan were speaking up for Palestine at Glastonbury this weekend, the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) met in London. It’s telling that the vacuum of leadership on the left is so complete that it falls to musicians to express the anger that millions of people are feeling. This Central Committee meeting was part of the RCP’s efforts to build the leadership that’s missing.
Letters: Capitalism on trial: grief, drought, decay, and hypocrisy
Convicted for grieving! The recent case of a grieving mother in South Wales – convicted for unpaid car tax amounting to £8.75 – lays bare the cruelty of Britain’s so-called justice system under capitalism. Following the death of her newborn baby, this woman faced not compassion but prosecution under the Single Justice Procedure (SJP), a fast-track, paper-only court process designed to deal with minor offences.
Iran war: “those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad”
Facebook Twitter Reddit WhatsApp Messenger Email Print As I write these lines, the attention of the entire world is focused on one man. His every word is studied, dissected and analysed in the most extraordinary detail, in the hope that one might derive some sense as to what it may, or may not, signify. The efforts of the self-styled experts closely resemble those of the astrologers of the ancient world who studied with equal diligence the entrails of dead animals in order to predict the future.
Starmer pledges more billions for bombs: No to austerity! No to their wars!
Next week, the leaders of the so-called ‘free world’ will convene for the annual NATO summit. At the top of the agenda of this western imperialist conference is the issue of rearmament. Following the demands of Trump, NATO chief Mark Rutte is urging each NATO member to increase its ‘defence’ spending to 5 percent of GDP.
Netanyahu's bid for all-out war in the Middle East
Originally published on marxist.com: 13 June 2025 In the early hours of Friday, 13 June, Israel launched a massive attack on Iran, taking out part of its military leadership and hitting some of its nuclear facilities. A second wave of Israeli strikes is ongoing at time of writing, hitting targets in Tehran, Keraj and Qom, as well as the Natanz Nuclear Enrichment Facility for a second time.
