Dealing with perfectionism is like having an endless report card on my behavior, looks, accomplishments, organization and the list can go on for days. I’m a middle child which means I have to live up to my older brother’s expectations and be a good role model for my younger sister at all times–the perfect in-between. When I tell people I’m a perfectionist, I don’t mean it metaphorically as if my day would be ruined if I messed up my mascara, even though sometimes it might.
Naviance is out, SchooLinks is in for D99
District 99 has adopted a new college and career readiness software provider that replaces Naviance. This source that DGS and DGN students will start to use is SchooLinks. SchooLinks, like Naviance, helps prepare students for what is to come after graduation. Students can create personalized plans to help them reach their future goals; in addition, they can take assessments that are used to navigate the planning process. This resource is also utilized to explore colleges and career paths.

The new ‘Mean Girls’ is a one and done movie
The famous and iconic movie that all us early 2000s babies live by has made a comeback 20 years later in the form of a musical/comedy movie. The new ”Mean Girls” film was released on Jan. 12, 2024, and is a musical remake of the original 2004 ”Mean Girls” film. “Mean Girls” is directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr., and written by Tina Fey who also wrote for the original 2004 film. Fey also stars as the iconic Ms. Norbury in both of the movies as well.
SAT to be taken online starting this Spring
At the start of spring 2024, U.S. high school students will only be allowed to take the SAT test online. College Board will still offer the pencil and paper SAT, but only for students who have specific accommodations. This rule was also implemented in other countries at the start of 2023. The purpose of this transition is to make the testing process quicker and more adaptive to students as individuals.
‘Wonka’ is a die to see movie
On Dec. 14, “Wonka” a musical fantasy movie was projected for the first time in theaters. This is a heartwarming, sentimental but fun and friendly story about the upbringing of Willy Wonka and his chocolate factory. Some scenes will pull at your heartstrings and others will make you laugh uncontrollably. Principal-Parent Partnership informs and includes parents
The Principal-Parent Partnership gatherings, also known as P3, are presented at DGS for all parents/legal guardians of currently enrolled students. These meetings are to help parents get a better understanding of what is going on in the school currently and how to improve it in the future. This program is similar to a PTA or PTO group, but includes a principal.
The unexpected always happens to the unexpected
I woke up one morning to news I never expected to get, and it made me think about how we don’t realize when people are sick, and I don’t mean physically– I mean mentally. Mental health is talked about frequently but is overlooked because it’s the people who are good at hiding their feelings. Those friends who we see daily, laughing and smiling, could have that thought of hurting themselves or overdosing on drugs in the back of their minds.

Childers recently released his new album “Rustin’ In The Rain” on Sept. 8, 2023. Childers is known for story-telling about love, heartbreak and tragedy in his songs, and did not disappoint with these new ones. The songs give you a true feeling of being loved and being in love.
