Oren Forgette's journey from his beginnings in Buffalo, New York, to becoming a distinguished student at SUNY Geneseo is a testament to his dedication and versatility. Born on June 7, 2001, he has consistently demonstrated a strong aptitude for science and leadership throughout his educational career.
Oren's high school years at City Honors High School in Buffalo were marked by his achievements as an International Baccalaureate Diploma candidate, culminating in his graduation with a NY Regents Diploma in June 2019. His academic prowess was paralleled by his commitment to rowing, where, as co-captain, he led his team to compete at the national level, showcasing his ability to balance leadership with teamwork and physical discipline.
At SUNY Geneseo, Oren is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics with a minor in Mathematics and will graduate in May 2024. His academic journey is distinguished by a 3.0 GPA, reflecting his commitment to his rigorous study program.
Oren's academic pursuits extended into specialized research during the summer of 2023 when he joined the NASA NY Space Grant. Under Dr. Pellerin's guidance, he enhanced RGB images of galaxies using data from the Hubble Space Telescope. This project advanced his data analysis and astrophysics skills, contributing to a broader understanding of space phenomena.
His technological proficiency was further displayed in a complex project in the fall of 2023, where he developed a control system using Labview software to synchronize the movements of two-stepping motors. This innovative solution allowed for the dynamic tracking of a toy car by a camera, highlighting his problem-solving skills and technical understanding.
Leadership is a core aspect of Oren's character, evidenced by his role as an Eagle Scout, where he led a significant environmental project to construct a deer enclosure. His leadership continued in his college years, where, as the Sports Chair of the Zeta Beta Xi Fraternity, he organized and promoted various sports activities, fostering team spirit and engagement among members.
In the professional sphere, Oren has been active in the service industry, working at the Cheesy Chick Cafe & Food Trucks and as a delivery driver for DoorDash. These experiences have honed his interpersonal and organizational skills.
Oren also dedicated his summers to mentoring as a camp counselor at Camp Pathfinder and coaching skiing at the Buffalo Ski Center. These roles utilized his leadership skills to influence and guide young individuals positively.
Outside his academic and professional life, Oren nurtures a passion for rowing and a burgeoning interest in stand-up comedy, highlighting his dynamic personality and ability to connect with diverse audiences.
