More than 51,000 people are being held in Nigerian correctional centres while awaiting trial, according to recent figures from the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS). The number is staggering not simply because of the pressure it places on correctional facilities, but because every figure represents a human being whose liberty has been taken away before a court has determined guilt.

Security in Nigeria is usually talked about in terms of crime, arrests, weapons, intelligence, and enforcement. However, there is a more basic question that we tend to ignore: Who looks after the vulnerable in those cases when the institutions and the people who are supposed to provide protection fail? This issue has now become extremely clear because of two recent events.

A brother called Judas: Is Charles Soludo Cain? By Festus Adedayo
By Festus Adedayo Ph.D (Published by the Sunday Tribune, September 20, 2026) History records that the most fatal stabs always come from within oneself. PhD @28, Original Japada; what a slogan! By LANRE ADEWOLE
For multiple reasons, my preference will always be for suave people, particularly men. The root of the adjective is in the Latin word suavis, meaning “being sweet” or “agreeable.” In borrowing the word, English Language expanded the meaning to mean being polite, confident, charming and slick in mannerism, often with a burnished style.

The feud between the governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has been brewing for a long time. Although the bubble appeared to burst only last week, Wike and the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) have kept each other at arm’s length for more than a year. What, then, are the issues at stake?
