Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

I was a soccer writer for SoccerMarkt.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

No.

How is social media changing news?

In a world where most people want to get the news fast, certain social media accounts can deceive them.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Clark Kent.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

You just want to give people the fairest and most accurate information. Sports writing it's an art, too, and you want to connect with people.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

Can't recall right now.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Orlando Silva from Athlon Sports or Sportskeeda.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I use Grammarly all the time, I check multiple sources before publishing a piece and sites specialized in stats.

What's your favorite social network?

X/Twitter

Who do you wish followed you?

Caitlin Clark or Daniel Levy

Why did you become a journalist?

Ever since I was a kid, I enjoyed watching sports and I felt a special connection to the people who narrate and analyze the game.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I pushed to create one, but it was all in my senior year, so we couldn't continue with the project.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I had to report Roy Halladay's passing in 2017 and wanted to pay respect to him. My boss told me I did a good job of honoring his career.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

That's hard, because I'm still aspiring too. I would say try to find your own voice and whatever you try to cover, do it with passion.

When's the best time to pitch you?

As soon as something worth reporting comes up.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

The ones I sense will get a lot of views. I've had plenty of that during my career. Most recently: “Nick Saban is returning to coach”: Colin Cowherd links legendary Alabama coach to $10,100,000,000 NFL franchise

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

I don't think there's such a thing as a bad pitch, or I haven't run into it yet. There are topics more difficult to write about, though.

What's your favorite drink?

Good and delicious water.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Working out or watching sports.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I like ESPN, The Sport Review and The Athletic

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

Nothing that I'm aware of.
