The Classic Horror Film Board-TV themes that didn't fit the show
12 minutes ago#12025-01-15T08:39+00:00 As in the mismatched movie theme thread, it isn't necessarily that the music was bad but that something different might have been a better fit. VIDEO Awfully bombastic for a show about an elderly investigator. "More mysterious things happen than in a coffee pot kitchen."
The Classic Horror Film Board-PARADOX: Do you hate the film but love its model-kit?
Paradoxical as it sounds, I can not stand the Frankenstein film at all, but loved making its model kit. For me, the Frankenstein story itself is much too gloomy and dismal. Not entertaining at all. Yet the visuals of his physical appearance are so captivating, especially his abnormally shaped cranium--which is why I gravitate to his figurines and model kits. Especially enjoy all those YouTube instructional videos that teach you how to properly assemble those figures.

Share with: Link: Member 1,428724 Last weekend - Dec 15th to be precise - two cinemas in Barcelona and Valencia ran naked-only performances for the horror movie You Are Not Me - on behalf of local naturist societies: Members of the audience had to sit on a towel, only undress inside the cinema and be members of a registered association. Could this be the start of a trend, I wonder?

At a STAR TREK convention, he seemed quite irritated to be asked about it, years after it ended. Rod Serling was scheduled to host the weekly series, but he died. Nimoy was the second choice.
The Classic Horror Film Board-Comic book question about Frankenstein
Member 1,811962 Although I was basically into superhero comics during the '60s, I would sometimes deviate to other genres such as Monsters. It usually happened when I happened to run across my friend's comics. One such occasion was when I ran across one of his humor comics which was either Jerry Lewis comics or Bob Hope comics.

We've updated our Privacy Policy and by continuing you're agreeing to the updated terms. Share with: Link: Member 1,783949 It was only recently that I ran across this Western series created by Rod Serling. The series is The Loner, about a drifter named William Colton. Besides creating the series, most of the episodes were penned by Serling. The episode that stands out for me is the episode "One of the Wounded."This one is what Rod Serling was great at---delving into the guts of human emotions.
The Classic Horror Film Board-Spectre ~ 1977 TV Movie
I searched all over the boards and couldn't find a thread on Spectre, the 1977 TV movie starring Robert Culp and Gig Young as supernatural investigators. All I could find were a few mentions of it withing the TV movie threads. So, here is a thread for Spectre. Spectre was a TV movie produced by Gene Rodenberry and looked like it could have been a pilot (much in the same way The Norliss Tapes was meant as a pilot). Because it is unreleased, I tracked down a DVD-r, which arrived today.

The particular episode I just viewed was "Caballero." Although Caesar Romero was of course fitting for the role of the Mexican policeman, what surprised me was the casting of Whit Bissell as Crawford. Contrary to his usual roles, this one has him instead as distinguished and urbane, as shown in the words he spoke.
The Classic Horror Film Board-James Bond at McDonald's
McDonald's is still the go-to place when I meet friends. It was in the 1970s when I went with 3 friends to McDonald's. Two were guys and the other one was the girlfriend of one of those guys. I was enjoying my fish-burger and the chat. Then at some point, one of the guys brought up James Bond. Actually I was not a Bond fan at all at that time, because I used to prefer the Man from Uncle series. Anyway, the two other guys began focusing on the Ladies in the JB films.

Didn't seem worth fixing at the time & I know I pitched it. Might have a mold or two somewhere. I have my best Crawlers in a match box over in the TV cabinet. I wonder how many from this Forum used to collect the Noman magazine.
The Classic Horror Film Board-Comparing Green Arrow and Hawkeye
Green Arrow and Hawkeye are both archers, so I thought it interesting to compare their arsenals, their quivers. Green Arrow came first because he originated in the Golden age, so Hawkeye is a copycat. But sometimes Hawkeye makes up for it by making improvements. A good example of a Hawkeye improvement over Green Arrow is Green Arrow's suction-cup arrow. That suction cup arrow is for the function of hoisting so that Green Arrow can be hoisted up to a higher level of a high-rise building, etc.

The Classic Horror Film Board-Question about ZOMBIE-cribbage set
The Zombie cribbage set is a board with pegs to play regular cribbage but with the distinctive motif of Zombies. That is, the Pegs used to keep track of the ongoing score are fashioned in the shape of zombies. One disappointment is that the score track runs to 61 points only--while a cribbage game runs up to 121 points. So you get a abbreviated game here.

The Classic Horror Film Board-Route 66!
One of my favorite "adult" shows growing up in the early 1960s was Route 66, starring Martin Milner and George Maharis. Milner was a familiar face, but I don't recall ever seeing Maharis before. He soon became the breakout star of the show, with his brooding dark looks and rugged appeal. Somewhere along the line, he left Route 66, under circumstances that still have yet to be explained. He has said he contracted Hepatitis. Others claim it was the result of a star trip where he demanded more money.

Instead it's the Gunsmoke character Chester who has a limp. What a switch.

Leopard Men again -- I hate those guys! This was an interesting little book from 1951. There doesn't seem to be much information available about Juba Kennerley, but he seems to a British writer fascinated with animism.. that is, people turning into animals, whether literally or just in their minds. Werwolves are the best known examples, but just about every culture through history has tales of people becoming foxes, bears, tigers, moose, you name it.

The Classic Horror Film Board-Why didn't Starman win the war?
Why didn't Starman win the war? [The comments about Marvel geniuses not using their inventions to, you know, cure cancer or end world hunger reminded me of this topic.] Now, the original Starman (the one who appeared in ADVENTURE COMICS and ALL-STAR COMICS beginning in 1941)had as his main distinction something called the Gravity Rod. This was a sceptre that charged up with starlight and converted it into useful energy.
The Classic Horror Film Board-THE EYE! Oddest Golden Age hero?
Oddest Golden Age hero? Maybe THE EYE Oddest Golden Age Hero? THE EYE There were quite a few super-heroes of the 1940s who, shall we say, did not quite fit the square-jawed muscular stereotype in colorful tights image. Madame Fatal, the cross-dressing crimefighter. The Heap, that shambling pile of swamp muck. Berp the Twerp, the Super So-And-So. And my candidate for oddest, the EYE. This hero, if you can call him that, appeared eleven times.
The Classic Horror Film Board-Cross-dressing for justice! MADAME FATAL
Cross-dressing for justice! Hollywood, here's your answer if you're looking for the next comic book based smash hit! The merchandise alone would net more money than THE LAST AIRBENDER ever did. Madam Fatal debuted in the first issue of CRACK COMICS in May 1940, written and drawn by Art Pinajian. Frankly, neither the storytelling nor the rendering were that good, ranging from competent to off-kilter.

The Classic Horror Film Board-The Sight on Daredevil's Gun
The sight on Daredevil's gun If you have a copy of "The Battle of the Baxter Building" from FANTASTIC FOUR# 40 (the original first series way way back), you might want to glance at page 4. The Classic Horror Film Board-DR STRANGE "The House of Shadows"
Yes! When he first appeared, Dr Strange seemed almost secret, as if not meant for everyone. His short strip was in the back of STRANGE TALES, starring the flamboyant Human Torch, and Dr Strange was not mentioned on the cover at all until HIS sixth episode (and that only a discreet blurb without a picture). The stories were more than a little creepy and well, strange.
The Classic Horror Film Board-Mr Stark, your briefcase just broke the conference room table
I have not been following comics for the longest time. The last I heard, Iron Man had abandoned advanced technology for basically magic, and the armor is stored in the hollows of Tony Stark's bones to emerge through his body and form around him when needed. Yeah right. He might as well yell "Industrialist power" and turn into a Power Ranger. For decades, Tony Stark wore the chestplate and kept the rest of the armor folded flat in his briefcase. Think about that a second.
The Classic Horror Film Board-The Original Captain Marvel (Fawcett and beyond)...
Why would Captain Marvel Junior ever change back? DC owns the Marvel Family now (how ironic is that?) and from the bits and pieces I've seen over the years, they might as well be publishing new characters with the same names and appearance. But I didn't expect them to be able to capture the whimsy and charm of the originals. Keith Giffen in particular treated Captain Marvel as not just naive and juvenile but downright simple-minded.
The Classic Horror Film Board-HIGHLANDER (TV series)
"What is this thing that builds our dreams, yet slips away from us?" Having read a lot of pulp series like Doc Savage and listened to old time radio shows, I'm used to the idea that a series can have some lame episodes or a weak beginning or an absolutely botched finale and yet still be great fun. HIGHLANDER is like that.
