OSCAR WILLIAMS

Oscar Williams joined Horse & Hound in October 2023 as dressage and sport horse editor, bringing together his deep-rooted love of horses, storytelling, and the outdoors.

Raised in Lancashire, Oscar began riding at 12, quickly progressing from hand-me-down ponies with the Lancaster & District Pony Club to persuading his parents to buy him his own horse—a wholly unsuitable but much-loved Welsh Section C.

After studying equine science at Myerscough College, Oscar switched his focus to dressage, inspired by the London 2012 Olympics. He spent four years working for Emile Faurie, competing at the 2015 National Dressage Championships and travelling to CDIs in Aachen, Vidauban, Saumur, and Achleiten.

Oscar later earned a master’s degree in Literature from York St John University in 2021, merging his passion for writing with his equestrian background.

He is particularly interested in work that makes equestrian sport more inclusive and accessible, as well as broader narrative features for rural (or rural curious) audiences.

Oscar now lives in Cumbria with his two boisterous spaniels, Miffy and Dougal.
