The ‘Dig Where You Stand’ project, led by Désirée Reynolds, seeks to excavate untold stories of Sheffield’s past. As part of this project, Otis Mensah was commissioned to write a poem about any one of the historical figures emerging from Sheffield Archives. The result is ‘Blue Fire’, which reimagines the life of Samuel Morgan Smith; an African-American Shakespearean actor who settled in Sheffield in the late-nineteenth century.
