A study of Coulomb explosion in a dense plasma focus hotspot using EPOCH particle-in-cell simulation code
Abstract Hotspots – ultra-hot, ultra-dense microscopic regions within the pinch plasma column of a dense plasma focus (DPF) device – are environments of extreme conditions that make the DPF a fascinating and powerful source of radiation and particles. In this paper, we present a detailed particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation of the Coulomb explosion of a dense, fully ionised plasma region (hotspot) against a background of cold, fully ionised plasma.

Perceptions and reality in fisher coexistence with aquatic predators in the Peruvian Amazon
1 Introduction Many wildlife species cause damage and economic loss to humans around the world (Nyhus, 2016). The extent or financial value of this damage is not always quantified, but these negative interactions can lead to the lethal control of the species responsible (Guerra, 2019).
How Many Chemicals in Commerce Have Been Analyzed in Environmental Media? A 50 Year Bibliometric Analysis
Over the past 50 years, there has been a tremendous expansion in the measurement of chemical contaminants in environmental media. But how many chemicals have actually been determined, and do they represent a significant fraction of substances in commerce or of chemicals of concern? To address these questions, we conducted a bibliometric survey to identify what individual chemicals have been determined in environmental media and their trends over the past 50 years.

Corrosion Inhibition, Inhibitor Environments, and the Role of Machine Learning
5. Machine Learning The previous sections explored the scope of potential structures that may need corrosion protection during their lifetime, as well as the large variety of potential electrolytes in which corrosion can occur within these structures. Traditional approaches to testing inhibitors for their degree of protection in these environments are very limited and usually deconstructed into much simpler tests where only a single variable is examined at one time.

Introduction Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) have been recognized as environmental hazards and are regulated through the Stockholm Convention on POPs. (1) Early discoveries of POPs generally involved bottom-up approaches and an element of chance. First, the substance was identified in the environment, and then its origin was investigated.

Linus Torvalds banishes masters, slaves and blacklists from the Linux kernel, starting now
Monday 13th July 2020 00:47 GMT autisticatheist Icon says it all. Monday 13th July 2020 09:16 GMT cyberdemon Argh The world has gone mad. O wait, not allowed to say 'gone mad' anymore. As many have pointed out, this destruction of language is straight out of 1984. I wonder who has really started this and what their vested interests were. It's certainly not going to be good for the stability of Linux, both as a codebase and as a community.

His Imperial Majesty, King of every Spiral Arm, Prince-Protector of Coreward Republics, Thearch of Bohm and its dependencies, Grand Duke of the Exterior Habitats, Elector of Both Magellanic Clouds, Guardian of All One Hundred Holy Relics and Defender of the Faith, the Emperor of All Space and Every World could not be bored.
Improving inclusion and exclusion criteria in foodborne illness outbreak investigations: a case study | Epidemiology & Infection | Cambridge Core
Abstract The practice of foodborne illness outbreak investigations has evolved, shifting away from large-scale community case-control studies towards more focused case exposure assessments and sub-cluster investigations to identify contaminated food sources. Criteria to include or exclude cases are established to increase the efficiency of epidemiological analyses and traceback activities, but these criteria can also affect the investigator's ability to implicate a suspected food vehicle.

No, not numb—nothing. You are nothing? No. Wait. “—to yourself as long as you don’t start answering—” Thinking hurts. “—You’d better show up before that happens, that’s all I’m saying—” A hiss, like a bad microphone. “—Winnifred! Medical thoracoscopy/pleuroscopy: step by step
R. Loddenkemper, P. Lee, M. Noppen, P.N. Mathur Breathe 2011 8: 156-167; DOI: 10.1183/20734735.011611 Abstract Summary Medical thoracoscopy/pleuroscopy is considered to be one of the main areas of interventional pulmonology and should be included in the training programme of the chest physician. As with all technical procedures, there is a learning curve before full competence in medical thoracoscopy/pleuroscopy is achieved. Therefore, appropriate training is mandatory.
Energy Analysis of the Resonant Frequency Shift Pattern Induced by Nonuniform Blockages in Pressurized Water Pipes
Abstract Blockages in urban water supply systems are commonly formed from various complicated physical, chemical, and biological processes; thus, they usually constrict randomly and nonuniformly along their lengths. Although the transient-based method has been developed for blockage detection, the applications of this method are mainly limited to blockages of uniform constriction along their lengths (termed as uniform blockages).

Rapid detection of equine infectious anaemia virus nucleic acid by insulated isothermal RT‐PCR assay to aid diagnosis under field conditions
Control of equine infectious anaemia (EIA) currently depends on serological diagnosis of infected equids. However, recently infected equids may not produce detectable anti‐EIAV antibodies up to 157 days post infection and so present a high transmission risk. Therefore, direct nucleic acid detection methods are urgently needed to improve EIAV surveillance and management programs in counties where the disease is endemic.
Four Ways to Die in the Future
You are alive, in this world; this world is alive, in the universe. Both of these things are true. Both of these things are temporary. Four Ways to Die in the Future is an anthology of four science fiction games about death. The Games Amidst Endless Quiet is a game for three to six players about the dying moments of Elios, a deep space transport struck by a stray micrometeorite while en route from Gliese to Zhou's World.
Weight loss associated with sodium‐glucose cotransporter‐2 inhibition: a review of evidence and underlying mechanisms
With their novel, insulin‐independent mechanism, sodium‐glucose cotransporter‐2 (SGLT2) inhibitors are a major turning point in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. At present, there are several SGLT2 inhibitors available or in development, and these oral anti‐hyperglycaemic agents lower plasma glucose through the inhibition of SGLT2‐mediated reuptake of filtered glucose in the kidney.

Solar wind sputtering rates of small bodies and ion mass spectrometry detection of secondary ions
Solar wind interactions with the surfaces of asteroids and small moons eject atoms and molecules from the uppermost several nm of regolith grains through a process called sputtering. A small fraction of the sputtered species, called secondary ions, leave the surface in an ionized state, and these are diagnostic of the surface composition. Detection of secondary ions using ion mass spectrometry (IMS) provides a useful method of analysis due to low backgrounds and high instrument sensitivities.

The Jeff Bezos-owned Washington Post has become the largest newspaper to refuse to serve readers who filter out advertisments. The Post described it as “a short test” to gauge what users who use blocked blockers will do next. What they will do next - they will go to another website for their news. I did not start to use an AdBlocker because I dislike ads - on the contrary, I have my own websites with ads.
