Successive spin reorientations and multi- k magnetism in A-site ordered perovskites R BaFe 2 O 6
Abstract The A-site layered double perovskite RBaFe2O6 (R = Pr, Nd, Sm) containing the unusually high-valent Fe3.5+ state exhibits a cascade of charge-disproportionation (CD) transitions on cooling driven by competing electronic instabilities: 2Fe3.5+ → Fe3+ + Fe4+ → 1.5Fe3+ + 0.5Fe5+. Using neutron powder diffraction and magnetisation measurements, we determine the evolution of magnetic structures across these successive CD regimes.

Magnetic properties of a staggered $S=1$ chain with an alternating single-ion anisotropy direction
Materials composed of spin-1 antiferromagnetic (AFM) chains are known to adopt complex ground states that are sensitive to the single-ion-anisotropy (SIA) energy (), and intrachain () and interchain () exchange energy scales. While theoretical and experimental studies have extended this model to include various other energy scales, the effect of the lack of a common SIA axis is not well explored.
High-pressure synthesis of Ruddlesden–Popper nitrides - Nature Chemistry
Abstract Layered perovskites with Ruddlesden–Popper-type structures are fundamentally important for low-dimensional properties, for example, photovoltaic hybrid iodides and superconducting copper oxides. Many such halides and oxides are known, but analogous nitrides are difficult to stabilize due to the high cation oxidation states required to balance the anion charges.
Magnetic structure, excitations, and field-induced transitions in the honeycomb lattice compound ${\mathrm{Er}}_{2}{\mathrm{Si}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{7}$
We investigate the magnetic properties of the monoclinic D-type Er2Si2O7 with a distorted honeycomb lattice using powder and single-crystal neutron scattering techniques, as well as single-crystal magnetization measurements. The powder neutron diffraction shows that below the ordering temperature, TN=1.85K, the compound forms a q=0 antiferromagnetic structure with four sublattices.
Strain control of a bandwidth-driven spin reorientation in Ca3Ru2O7 - Nature Communications
Abstract The layered-ruthenate family of materials possess an intricate interplay of structural, electronic and magnetic degrees of freedom that yields a plethora of delicately balanced ground states. This is exemplified by Ca3Ru2O7, which hosts a coupled transition in which the lattice parameters jump, the Fermi surface partially gaps and the spins undergo a 90∘ in-plane reorientation. Here, we show how the transition is driven by a lattice strain that tunes the electronic bandwidth.
CaFeFeNbO6 - an iron-based double double perovskite
CaFeFeNbO6 – an iron-based double double perovskite†‡ K. Ji, a J. R. Bedward, a Q. Li,a P. Manuel,b C. Ritterc and J. Paul Attfield *a Abstract Ordering of cations is important for controlling properties of ABO3 perovskites, and CaFeFeNbO6 is the first example of an Fe-based AA’BB’O6 double double perovskite, with Ca2+/Fe2+ ordered on A-site columns, and Fe3+/Nb5+ at the octahedral B-sites.
Emergent magnetic order and correlated disorder in formate metal-organic frameworks
1. Background Magnetic materials have long been studied from a fundamental standpoint [1] and for their functional properties, including data storage and transfer [2], magnetic refrigeration [3] and as MRI contrast agents [2,4]. Ferromagnetism has been known about before modern science through the naturally occurring iron-containing mineral, magnetite [5], despite a lack of understanding of its underlying microscopic magnetic mechanisms.
