Religious Liberty at the Supreme Court: What Every Faith-Based Organization Should Be Watching in 2026
For 250 years, America's vibrant religious life has flourished under a constitutional framework that has afforded religious liberty stronger legal protections than almost anywhere else in the world. Faith-based organizations, schools, and parents continue to rely on those same constitutional guarantees to safeguard their most fundamental freedoms. And yet, as the 2025-26 term comes to an end, religious liberty continues to be one of the Supreme Court’s most actively contested issues.
Religious Liberty at the Supreme Court: What Every Faith-Based Organization Should Be Watching in 2026 | JD Supra
[co-author: Claire Woynerowski] For 250 years, America's vibrant religious life has flourished under a constitutional framework that has afforded religious liberty stronger legal protections than almost anywhere else in the world. Faith-based organizations, schools, and parents continue to rely on those same constitutional guarantees to safeguard their most fundamental freedoms.
What Southern Baptists should know about the judicial branch
This episode discussing what Southern Baptists should know about the judicial branch continues our series of the ERLC in D.C. Welcome to The ERLC Podcast where our goal is to help you think biblically about today’s cultural issues. Today, we’re continuing our series focused on the work we do in Washington, D.C. The ERLC’s presence in our nation’s capital allows us to speak up, for, and from our Southern Baptist churches before various audiences, including our federal government leaders.
Last week the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) issued two rulings dealing with Texas’ Senate Bill 8 (SB 8), or the Texas Heartbeat Act. In Whole Woman’s Health v Jackson, the court considered whether the petitioners (abortion providers) may pursue a pre-enforcement challenge to SB8. In United States v. Texasthe court addressed the federal government’s separate challenge of SB8.
The burden and gift of living
Life is hard. I’m not sure any three words better encapsulate what many people feel on a daily basis. The statistics are staggering. We are among the most anxious, most depressed, most stressed, most overwhelmed, and even hopeless groups of people who have ever lived—at least in the last several hundred years.
What evangelicals need to learn from the Josh Duggar situation
By Catherine Parks and Palmer Williams, Op-ed Contributor | Wednesday, June 02, 2021 When the news broke that former reality TV star Josh Duggar had been arrested for possession of child pornography, the common response was disgust, and rightfully so.
Reexamining the Pilgrims and liberty - ERLC
November 2020 marks the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the “Pilgrims” in Plymouth Colony in New England. In other times and other years, the anniversary might have attracted more notice, but in the year of COVID, and amidst a controversial American election, the Pilgrims’ anniversary will undoubtedly be muted.
How religion functions in public argument
No topic is more fraught in American life than the relationship between religion and politics. Someone’s understanding of the American experiment often hinges upon their understanding of how the two relate: Is America a mostly secular nation that should eschew religious influence? Or, does religion play an important role in America’s legacy in terms of its values and national identity?
How nonprofits allow us to care for the most vulnerable - ERLC
The economic effects from COVID-19 will reverberate for many years, and communities of color will feel them most powerfully. The Washington Post reports that 20% of Latinos—the highest reported demographic—were furloughed or laid off during the national quarantine. The Post also reports that 6 in 10 African American and Latino households said they didn’t have enough savings to cover three months of living.
Christians are called to love those affected by the coronavirus
As of today, there are more than 79,000 reported cases of the coronavirus worldwide, the majority of which come from within China. Sadly, more than 2,000 people have lost their lives to the virus, and these numbers are increasing as reporting methods change and China’s efforts to contain accounts are exposed. The ERLC has covered some of the scope of the virus and various government responses. People across the globe are taking necessary precautions to protect themselves and their communities.
ERLC Supports Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act
Southern Baptists believe that every person is created in the image of God. The Convention’s Baptist Faith & Message doctrinal document states that “children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord” and encourages members to “speak on behalf of the unborn and contend for the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death.” Current federal law lacks sufficient legal protection and medical provision for children who survive failed abortions.

ERLC’s Russell Moore Comments on Proposed Rule to Restrict Federal Funding of Abortion
WASHINGTON, D.C., May 18, 2018—Russell Moore, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, commented on reports that the Trump administration will announce today its intent to propose a rule to reinstate Title X regulations that would separate taxpayer dollars from abortion funding. “I welcome this announcement from the administration of its intention to propose a rule clearly stating that family planning does not include abortion.
Pro-life and pro-justice
Benjamin Watson is known to many as an accomplished NFL player, but more importantly, he is a child of God who is deeply committed to the gospel and its implications. He’s particularly passionate about the value of all human life and racial unity. So, at Evangelicals for Life, he gave a talk title “Pro-life and Pro-justice,” showing how the two thing are not opposed. We hope this message sheds new light on your understanding of both of these issues.
The Entire Concept of a Lone Wolf Terrorist is Fake News | American Center for Law and Justice
Each and every time another dastardly jihadist terrorist attack is inflicted on the world, headlines emerge that the savagery was carried out by a “lone wolf” terrorist. As a lawyer who deals in facts, the absurdity of this concept is beyond the pale. The mountain of evidence that has been amassed in the wake of dozens upon dozens of radical Islamic terrorist attacks points to one and only one conclusion – there is nothing lone about jihadist terrorism.
Mother’s Day & the Miracle of Every Life – How We’re Fighting Back to Defend this Banned Life-Saving Video | American Center for Law and Justice
How could France censor a pro-life video message of people with Down Syndrome talking about how much they love life and love their mothers? Our European affiliate, the European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ), has just filed a legal application with the European Court of Human Rights to challenge this absurd ruling.
Cutting Taxes & Letting Americans Keep More of Their Money | American Center for Law and Justice
Yesterday, the Trump Administration outlined an auspicious tax-reform proposal that puts American jobs, industry, and the American people first. This proposal is designed to jumpstart the economy from its current sluggish growth trajectory of 2 percent to a more robust 3-4% annual growth. It simplifies the tax code, doubles the standard deduction, lowers tax brackets from seven brackets to three, and dramatically lowers the corporate tax to meet first-world standards.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Declines Early Hearing for Christian Mom Asia Bibi’s Execution Appeal | American Center for Law and Justice
Earlier this week, the attorney for Christian mom Asia Bibi confirmed that the Chief Justice of Pakistan has declined his client’s request for an early hearing for the final judicial appeal of her death sentence. While this is a heartbreaking development for the Christian mother of five spending her 2,362nd day imprisoned for her Christian faith, it also serves as a vital reminder of the need for our continued prayers and global advocacy on her behalf.
President Trump Aware of American Pastor Andrew Brunson’s Plight | American Center for Law and Justice
At Monday’s White House Press Briefing, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer was asked about the plight of American Pastor Andrew Brunson, wrongfully imprisoned in Turkey. This is hopeful and encouraging as our team at the ACLJ begins high-level meetings on Capitol Hill this week as part of our multi-pronged global advocacy to free Pastor Andrew and seek justice on behalf of him and his family. Because of your voice and support, our advocacy is working. But we must not let up.
Remembering Christ’s Death, Resurrection, and the Persecuted Church this Easter | American Center for Law and Justice
This Holy Week, as I gather together with my family, we celebrate the risen Savior, Jesus Christ, who died on the Cross on Good Friday and was resurrected three days later on Easter Sunday, overcoming sin and death for each of us. He was the ultimate Passover lamb. With Easter, we celebrate life, we celebrate freedom, and we celebrate our eternal hope.
The Obama Administration’s Long History of Weaponizing the Bureaucracy to Target its Political Opponents | American Center for Law and Justice
It is outrageous, unconscionable, and illegal. Even so, mounting evidence indicates that the Obama Administration and its loyalists had a habit of using information gleaned from classified foreign surveillance to smear and perhaps blackmail its political opponents. In fact, whether it’s the IRS scandal or spying on Israeli officials lobbying against the Iran nuclear deal, the practice didn’t begin in 2016.
Wife of Imprisoned American Pastor Andrew Brunson Receives Personal Letter from Vice President Pence | American Center for Law and Justice
On the heels of Pastor Andrew Brunson’s wife personal meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson concerning the wrongful imprisonment of her husband, she received a personal letter from Vice President Pence assuring that “Andrew’s case remains a top priority of the U.S. government….” In the letter, Vice President Pence wrote, “I can assure you both that the State Department and this White House, under President Trump’s leadership, consider Andrew’s release and reunification with you...
U.S. Pastor Andrew Brunson’s Unjust Imprisonment in Turkey Reaches 6 Months | American Center for Law and Justice
Today marks six months that American Pastor Andrew Brunson, a United States citizen from North Carolina, has been unjustly held in Turkey. Languishing in a prison cell built for eight, which at times holds as many as 22 prisoners, of which Pastor Andrew is always the only Christian, he wonders if he has been forgotten. And just what crime has Pastor Andrew committed? He literally has no idea.
Sudan Ramps Up Persecution of Christians Once Again Arresting Christians and Attempting to Demolish Churches | American Center for Law and Justice
The Christian community in Sudan has faced increased persecution this week at the hands of Sudanese authorities. For years the Sudanese Christian church has encountered church demolitions, property confiscations, and unjust imprisonments, and this week those troubles only intensified. First, the Administration court in Khartoum dismissed a case that would have prohibited the Sudanese government from demolishing at least 25 churches in the Khartoum area.

Surveillance Hidden in Plain Sight: Susan Rice Leads the Effort to Unmask The Trump Administration | American Center for Law and Justice
There are new developments every day providing more facts concerning whether members of the Obama Administration, actively colluding with both the government bureaucracy and compliant members of the media, have engaged in a crusade to delegitimize the incoming administration. Here's what we know. First, the Trump transition team was caught up in surveillance conducted by the Obama Administration.
Take Action Now – Senate Must Confirm Judge Gorsuch to the Supreme Court | American Center for Law and Justice
Judge Gorsuch epitomizes everything a great Supreme Court justice should be. He is an originalist, textualist, and believes in upholding the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution, leaving the law making to the other branches of government. Every American and U.S. Senator of any political persuasion should celebrate him as the model of judicial excellence.
President Trump, restore the credibility of the IRS. Ask Commissioner Koskinen to resign. Now | American Center for Law and Justice
As President Trump focuses on implementing changes across the federal government, there’s one agency that desperately needs his attention – and his penchant for change – the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). For many years now, we have been battling a corrupt IRS in federal court. This is a lawless IRS that wrongly targeted grassroots conservatives during the Obama administration. As I reported here last year, we’re not the only ones critical of an untrustworthy IRS.
Defending Christian Man Beaten, Shot by Muslim Attackers in Pakistan
On June 16, 2016, Jurra Masih, a Pakistani Christian, was beaten, shot, and his property was set on fire by Muslims because of a dispute originating from the profits of their co-run business. Upon leaving, the Muslims threatened to inflict more harm on the family if the Christians continued to demand their rightful share of the business earnings.
Fight to End a Culture of Forced Child Marriages in Kenya Heads to Court
The girls of Samburu County have seen this first hand. But thanks to a group of courageous Kenyans and our colleagues at the East African Centre for Law & Justice (EACLJ), good men and women are rising up to put a stop to the evil that these young girls face.
Fighting for the Protection of Young Kenyan Girls At the United Nations
When our team of attorneys on the ground in Kenya heard of the imminent danger of young girls in the Samburu region, they raced to the northern Kenyan county to assist in their rescue. Our team learned that girls in this tribe as young as six years old were forced to marry men as old as their fathers and grandfathers, forced to endure the horrific practice of female genital mutilation, and then subjected to a life of rape and slavery.
Major Victory: Sergeant First Class Martland Exonerated, Will Remain in Military
It’s a massive victory more than six months in the making. Sergeant First Class Charles Martland – a decorated war hero who faced expulsion from the Army for defending a child – has been exonerated and will be allowed to remain in the U.S. military. We have been aggressively advocating for SFC Martland for more than six months, and now we’ve helped achieve a significant victory for this Green Beret war hero.
Congressional Investigation Reveals New Evidence of Potential Criminality in the Abortion Business
New evidence was disclosed this week that further proves abortion clinics have profited from the sale of aborted baby body parts. Despite the abortion lobby’s attempts to drown out the facts with distracting and deceptive tactics, the House Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives uncovered hard evidence detailing a profitable relationship between abortion clinics and fetal tissue procurement companies. Under federal law, it is unlawful to profit from the sale of fetal tissue.
Pressing Criminal Charges Against Muslim Attackers for Brutalizing a Young Christian Girl in Pakistan
The ECLJ’s affiliate in Pakistan, the Organization for Legal Aid (OLA), is in the process of pressing criminal charges against a Muslim family for brutalizing a young Christian girl. The attackers stripped Parwasha, an eight-year-old Christian girl, and then beat her, and left her naked on the streets—all for a crime she didn’t commit. This assault and public humiliation occurred because the Muslim family sought retribution against Parwasha’s maternal uncle.
From Darkness to Light: Three Words of Wisdom from a Former Planned Parenthood Clinic Director
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” – Ephesians 6:12, KJV When we first walked into the office of Abby Johnson, the former Planned Parenthood clinic director turned pro-life activist, the first thing that stood out was a 2008 Employee of the Year Award for Outstanding Service and Dedication to Planned Parenthood of Houston and Southeast Texas.
Bought and Paid For: $86,917 Reasons Planned Parenthood Owns New Abortion Panel
Planned Parenthood has paid nearly $100,000 into the war chests of the six Democrats just selected to sit on the new House Select Investigative Panel probing Planned Parenthood’s atrocities. In fact, the abortion lobby as a whole has given these six Members of Congress hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is the abortion industry’s Congressional dream team.
Lois Lerner and the IRS: Why we need a special counsel now more than ever
When I heard the news that the Department of Justice (DOJ) was closing its investigation into former top IRS official Lois Lerner – who’s at the heart of the unlawful targeting scandal of conservative and Tea Party groups – two thoughts came to mind. First, the decision not to bring any criminal charges against Lerner or anyone else at the agency is very disturbing -- but sadly predictable.
9 Takeaways from Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards’s Brazen Congressional Testimony
Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards testified before the House Oversight Committee this morning – the first appearance on Capitol Hill for Planned Parenthood since investigative journalists began exposing their abhorrent practices of selling parts of butchered babies. Richards’ testimony was full of the same deception and spin that has been continually spouted by Planned Parenthood’s allies in Congress, the Obama White House, and the mainstream media.
Nine Stunning Admissions from Planned Parenthood’s “Nothing to See Here” Letter to Congress
Planned Parenthood is on the ropes, reeling from months of being exposed for its sickeningly evil practice of selling the bodies of murdered babies for parts. In an attempt to deflect attention from its atrocities, it has sent the several congressional committees that have opened up federal investigations into Planned Parenthood’s practices a “nothing to see here” letter.
WaPo: Three Pinocchios for Planned Parenthood’s “3 Percent” Abortion Lie
Planned Parenthood has long been able to promulgate its 3% abortion lie, and the mainstream media has eaten it up hook line and sinker, not once questioning the veracity of the largest abortion provider in the U.S. That is all changing. For the first time, the mainstream media has begun to question Planned Parenthood.
Is Planned Parenthood Harvesting Murdered Babies’ Organs without Consent?
In the latest undercover video from the investigative journalists exposing the disgusting practices of Planned Parenthood, new questions are raised about potential violations of federal law.
Now is the Time to Act
In the last few weeks, the world has been exposed to a mere handful of the horrific acts of violence that occur every day in Planned Parenthood facilities. Response to the investigative journalism has been polarized, and it is increasingly difficult for anyone to be apathetic to these atrocities or blind to the truth.
Department of Defense Reconsiders Policy Limiting Troops’ Self-Defense
Over 50,000 of you spoke up after terrorism struck on American soil once again in Chattanooga, TN. Now, the Department of Defense (DOD) is responding, reevaluating dangerous priorities. After a jihadist murdered five unarmed soldiers at military installations here at home, we spoke up and you stood with us to protect our troops, demanding they be allowed to defend themselves.

The changing landscape of wealth transfer
One of the most common concerns clients don’t think to ask their financial advisors about is how best to transfer their wealth to the next generation. However, in many cases, clients are unaware about how their estate will be taxed and what financial tools are most efficient to pass on assets to heirs. Wealth transfer is not a new concept. Nonetheless, the current estate tax laws and recent stock market gains have changed the landscape for wealth transfer.
