Palomino on the move to save four by Friday
By Palomino Armstrong, It is go-time once again. First I want to say Thank You, for saving so many precious lives. Sadly, the emergencies keep coming and we have a very short deadline to save these horses. I NEED TO COMMIT BY FRIDAY MORNING TO KEEP THEM OFF THE TRUCK!, But it is up to y’all if you want me to say yes! I received an urgent call this morning.
Last batch of horses saved; But, one left needs rescuing
ANOTHER MIRACLE BABY – MEET LITTLE MAX, AND HIS MAMA WHO REJECTED HIM. By Palomino Armstrong, They just keep coming. All the horses in the last batch have been saved. Luckily another rescue group stepped up and helped fundraise and there is only one left at this time. We are slated to bring him home if he does not get adopted in the next few hours. Sadly, between his fees and Coggins etc., we will need another $750 just to save him, and that does not include the additional babies.
The 911 calls won't stop for the Chilly Pepper-Miracle Mustang Ranch gang ~ East Valley Times
By Palomino Armstrong, ANOTHER 911 CALL! They just do not stop in our world. 2 More wild babies at the shipper’s so far, (and most likely more to come!) Folks have seen multiple “traps” that are currently full of wild horses, right now, today! We received an urgent call for a group of kids that are shipping in a few days? 6 Domestics, 3 more older, “gentle giants”, who were purportedly driving horses, and 3 older saddle horses.

On way to save nine, Armstrong's contemplate if they can save this big guy too ~ East Valley Times
By Palomino Armstrong, WILL YOU SAVE MY LIFE TOO??? Matt and I are headed up to get the nine kids, and had to pull over for a quick question? CAN WE SAVE THIS SPECIAL BOY AS WELL? He is scheduled to ship imminently, and when we got the call, we had to try. He is a gentle giant, albeit a “Roachback”. But look at that face, he so does not deserve to die. His fee is expensive, as with his weight he will bring a nice fat paycheck if he is shipped to slaughter.
Then there were nine; More deadlines to save these horses
By Palomino Armstrong, WILL YOU SAVE MY LIFE??? (And my friends?) The baby shown at right is going to ship if we do not step up! As of tonight, there are nine lives at stake. Rescue is overwhelming with the constant need for fundraisers, the calls you cannot say yes to, the constant cries for help. Yet once again, we are stuck. We simply do not have enough funds to save all these kids.
Palomino has three in Washington ready to get ASAP
By Palomino Armstrong, Another 911 call today. The shipper in WA has at least three for us. I need to let him know asap if we can take them. TWO of them are easily big enough to ship, but we were offered the chance to save them. However, as always, there is a looming deadline. We are so grateful to y’all for helping us save the 71 babies in August and September, but these lives are just as important.
Chilly Pepper crew asks for help for critical condition Tatiana
By Palomino Armstrong, Thank you for helping us save all 71 babies. In the middle of all that, we rescued another Virginia Range yearling with a nail in her foot. Sadly, the only option was to end her excruciating pain. ANOTHER EMERGENCY CALL YESTERDAY. We picked up this beautiful little girl last night. She is about as critical as they come. We also found out she has extreme issues with peripheral vision and appears to be completely blind behind her.
Palomino on a quest to save more babies
By Palomino Armstrong, Another call for four more babies, and maybe more. At least this one is not a 24-hour deadline. Pickup could be in a day, or a week, or even longer. Luckily the Shipper does not have a full load right now. So every day is a gift for these poor babies. Sadly, we have no option to save the moms. But we need to raise funds to secure the safety and rescue of these little babies. We deal with so much heartbreak it is beyond comprehension.
Palomino reports receiving six additional mares on top of original planned rescues
By Palomino Armstrong, MARE # 2 WAS OUR “BONUS MARE”. She is in extremely critical shape Please say a prayer for her! Her colt is also absolutely starved 🙁 PLEASE NOTE – OUR NEW MAILING ADDRESS IS CHILLY PEPPER PO BOX 233 GOLCONDA, NV 89414 It never seems to end. YOU made it possible to save the original 4 pregnant mares.
Chilly Pepper gang has rare chance to save a baby with its mom
By Palomino Armstrong, IT’S GO TIME IN A BIG WAY!!! We have a rare chance to save MOM AND BABY!!! We are supposed to be picking up in approximately 19 hours, and we actually can save Mom too, – WITH YOUR HELP! As you can see this little “ANGEL”, needs somewhat of a miracle. She is only about a week old, from what we understand. She has an injury to her leg which needs immediate and urgent care. At this age they are so delicate and it is obviously infected. They can go septic and crash so quickly.
Fifteen orphaned babies are in desperate need of help
By Palomino Armstrong, Chilly Pepper’s kids need your help today. We have 15 orphaned foals on hand, and we are going through milk and supplies like crazy. Every single baby has had to be seen by a vet, and most of them needed medication of some sort. Many are still on, or finishing up their meds, and happily all are guzzling milk like crazy. The simple fact is that to properly take care of an orphan foal, it is expensive.
More babies flooding in at Chilly Pepper; milk is in desperate need
GOT MILK? We are going through milk by the gallons, and MORE BABIES ARE FLOODING IN. WILL YOU HELP US SAVE THEM? Another 911 call. There are babies at the shipping yard and we need to buy them/pick them up by Sunday. There are at least 4, and those numbers are normally higher by the time we get there. The nursery also was put on notice that one of the Trappers has a large group of horses and will have orphan foals for us next week.
With growing responsibility, Chilly Pepper gang need your help with more baby foals coming
They just keep ON coming, and we are about to get hit. It is the time of year when they will start coming in bunches. Now that we are the “go to” for the NV kids as well, we have even more responsibility, and it is keeping us running. It is “Go time” again, although it hasn’t ever really stopped.IT IS BABY TIME ALL THE TIME!!!, and we need your help Now! More babies means more milk, and we are going through gallons.
We are in full baby season, but its a bit more complicated this year
By Palomino Armstrong, IT IS BABY TIME!!! Currently, there are six babies in WA, and three in NV. We are in full Baby Season, and it is a bit more complicated this year. Not only are we, (so far), pretty much the only rescue working on saving as many of the Yakama wild horses being shipped to slaughter as we can, we are once again the “go to” rescue in NV for the Virginia Range orphaned and injured horses.
Palomino and Matt share thanks for donations, love and support
By Palomino Armstrong, I just wanted to say THANK YOU!. Your donation and your love and support for these horses has made it possible to change so many lives. Together we have saved well over a thousand lives. You are the reason we can do this, and as hard as it is, I am extremely grateful that together, we are making such a difference. I am getting ready to make milk for the babies we just picked up. (The photo above are some of the milk babies we saved last month.).
Chilly Pepper seeks help to save this horse from slaughter
By Palomino Armstrong, It is Now or Never for this poor boy. As usual, right in the middle of one rescue, comes another. Matt is on the scene and we have a chance to keep “HE NEEDS A MIRACLE” safe from any more of the horrors he has already faced. As you can see, he may end up being another humane euthanasia. Obviously, we will give him every single chance to heal, and if he is just a bit odd shaped and in no pain, we will make sure he finds a safe place to land.
Smokey & the Bandit and Buddy were saved from being loaded onto the "trailer of death"; more newborn foals in shippers pen ~ East Valley Times
By Palomino Armstrong, YOU did it! YOU kept Smokey & the Bandit, and poor Buddy from being loaded on the “trailer of death”. It is with a broken heart I share the news, that for Bandit, his journey would end long before we wanted. We had to alleviate Bandit’s pain, as he suffered a horrific case of colic. I have no doubt his condition played a huge part in it all just being too much for him to fight. It was the right thing to do for him, and he is running free in Heaven.
The clock is ticking to save Bandit and many more babies
Bandit By Palomino Armstrong, “BANDIT” needs your help today!!. Although we are on standby for more babies, I couldn’t ignore this beautiful boy. Seeing the despair in his eyes, and knowing that we can not only change that, but keep him off the slaughter truck sent me running to the computer. (Ok, so I can barely walk, but y’all know what I mean.) In all seriousness though, the clock is ticking… I had to make an immediate decision, so once again I based it on faith.
Chilly Pepper says they need to save another ten foals stranded in the snow
By Palomino Armstrong, There are so many emergencies, but THIS IS BEYOND AN EMERGENCY. The babies have been dying left and right, and we need to know right now if folks are going to step up and help us save them. It’s hard to know where to start. I was contacted and asked if Chilly Pepper will take on these fragile foals. However, due to the extremely dangerous conditions, the folks are cashing in, the price is $300. (We pay more than that for horses all the time), but there could be up to 16?
Palomino seeks help for little miracle Cooper's Chance ~ East Valley Times
By Palomino Armstrong, The emergency call came in a few hours ago. So now I am packing the truck and trailer and we are heading to WA. COPPER’S CHANCE arrived at Mama Mel’s Urgent Care Nursery, (our satellite facility in Toppenish, WA) just about the time I received the call. Matt and I were on a supply run, so now that we are finally home, we are loading everything and heading out tomorrow. COPPER’S CHANCE is truly a miracle.
In honor of fallen Star Fire, Palomino and crew continue to fight to save more lives
By Palomino Armstrong *There is never truly time to grieve when you are on the front line. So to honor our beautiful little Star Fire, we suck up the pain and continue to fight to save more lives.* We were hoping to have a bit more time to prepare for the babies, but we received an urgent call regarding the babies in WA. Many of the locals near Mama Mel’s Urgent Care Nursery (our satellite in Toppenish WA), have reported more than one group of horses stranded in the deep snow.
Currently in a "Nursery 911" at Chilly Pepper—Miracle Mustang Ranch ~ East Valley Times
By Palomino Armstrong, YOU saved Artie!!!! Artie is with me in Shingletown and hopefully headed to NV soon. Sadly, we are currently in a “Nursery 911”.
Chilly Pepper Miracle Mustang Ranch reaches another deadline for many babies package deal
Click on ad for more info By Palomino Armstrong, Another call, another deadline. I was given until 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning to commit to a package deal OF ALL THE BABIES left from the “Stolen Horse Roundup” that happened last week. We have a chance to save ALL 32 babies. I have to commit to purchasing the entire bunch by morning, but will have until Monday to come up with the funds. We are in WA in the middle of another rescue, but are willing to step up, as always.
Chilly Pepper Mustang Ranch needs help to make this a happy New Year for seven more babies
Click on ad for more info By Palomino Armstrong, PLEASE MAKE THIS A HAPPY NEW YEAR for 7 MORE BABIES We have a 24 HOUR DEADLINE, and the clock is ticking. We need to SAVE the remaining SEVEN (7) McDermitt babies. Just got the call minutes ago. We knew there might be more, but now it’s GO TIME! once again. These babies desperately need your help to stay out of the slaughter pipeline. IT’S THE LAST HURRAH FOR 2018.
What a glorious Christmas knowing YOU SAVED THEM ALL! ~ East Valley Times
By Palomino Armstrong, Thank you for you wonderful donation. We so appreciate all of it. The donations save their lives, the prayers keep us going and sharing the news also helps. So thank you again for saving these kids. We have them at our WA nursery and will be heading up in the next few days to get them vetted and home. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO KEEP HELPING US SAVE MORE LIVES, YOU CAN GO TO: You can go to gofundme You can go to Paypal if you would like to help these horses.
Chilly Pepper Mustang— Sixteen babies being shipped out this Thursday ~ East Valley Times
By Palomino Armstrong, IT NEVER ENDS! PLEASE HELP SAVE THESE BABIES There are 16 babies at the Fallon Feed Lot—who ships THIS Thursday if they are not rescued prior to 8:00 pm. We are so overfull, but how do we watch them ship to their death? We need funds to purchase them, and I do not know how much that will cost at this point, but we HAVE TO HAVE FUNDS TO FEED AND CARE FOR THEM if we are going to go get any or all of them.
More mini's in need to get safely home to Chilly Pepper Miracle Mustang Ranch ~ East Valley Times
By Palomino Armstrong, Available at Chilly Pepper Mustang The Mini’S Are Finally Available!! An update and plea to help us finally get the mini’s safely home to Chilly Pepper. As of today, all 17 are scheduled for their Coggins tests this coming Thursday. The paperwork should be back 3 days after and we will be bringing them home in time for Christmas! YOU SAVED ALL OF THE 15 BABIES THIS LAST WEEK! THANK YOU FROM EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM! We were down to the wire, but we made it.
Chilly Pepper organization suggests Christmas present of donation to save the babies
By Palomino Armstrong, Another 911 call. Literally just got off the phone a minute ago. We have 15 MORE Yakama foals who need help RIGHT NOW. I so wish it would snow about 20 feet so all the catchers would stop catching horses. But wishes won’t save lives, so once again we are asking YOU to help us save these innocent babies. Their families have already shipped to slaughter, so time is of the essence.
Chilly Pepper organization seeking help for displaced horses, critters from Camp Fire
By Palomino Armstrong, PLEASE join us, in our “BELLA’S LEGACY – Got Hay”? fundraiser for the displaced horses and critters from the Camp Fire in Butte County and CPMM. The fire is about an hour from our place in California and is hitting close to home. There is so much heartbreak and sadness it is truly unimaginable, and the number of lost lives goes up every day.
Palomino organization has till today to raise funds to save seven more
THE GROUP SHOWN AT RIGHT ARE MY NEW “DEADLINE” FOR TODAY – DO YOU WANT TO SAVE THEM AS WELL? YOU DID IT! We SAVED 11 lives in the last two days with your love and support. We have enough to vet these kids, but now the above lives are at stake. I am sure you already know the next line. ANOTHER PHONE CALL – I have until today to raise the funds for seven MORE HORSES! We ended up with two emaciated mares, one so bad that she went down right after stepping into the trailer.
Short deadline brings heartbreak for five weanlings
Wow, the phone calls just keep coming. We had some heartbreak last week as I was called for five weanlings. I knew we would have a deadline, but was given no idea how short it would be. Sadly, I didn’t have enough time to find a place where we could keep them or even begin to put out a fundraiser, before it was too late. I sent the text as soon as I found a place, but received one back saying “I already got rid of them”.
Palomino's crew on stand by again to save ten minis ~ East Valley Times
ANOTHER PHONE CALL – The mini’s we have been on standby for, since a couple of months ago, will be ready for us in the coming weeks. However, we need funds as always to get these kids to safety and vetted etc. Do you want to save these little cuties? In the meantime, Matt picked up a 20+ mare yesterday. It seems like they are coming out of the woodwork. She is beautiful, but definitely a grandma, and needs TLC and her lil hoofers done. The other days was a really rough day.
Shelter desperately needed—ten more orphans added to Chilly Pepper Miracle Mustang nursery ~ East Valley Times
More babies are coming in. IN ADDITION to the four that we just saved, there are SIX MORE, including Lil Cash who is only a month or two old. Due to the loss of life last winter, many of the mares are foaling out of the normal foal season. So we will need LOTS of Foal Lac and milk pellets etc. The new nursery is NOT set up, and there are only a few panels and no shelter as the other rescue took everything when they shut down the “orphanage”.
More babies coming and need to set up nursery immediately!

On way home from surgery, Palomino receives call for help to save babies
911 ANOTHER URGENT CALL… As Matt was driving me home from surgery, we received an emergency call from the Shipper in WA. four babies need your help! As we are the ONLY rescue he works with, it is up to us to save their lives. They literally have NOWHERE ELSE to go. They are possibly 5 or 6 months old, and it only takes 400 pounds to get them on the slaughter truck (or at least that is what I have been told).
Chilly Pepper Miracle Mustang faces major rehab issues from Texas kids
Hi y’all—Thank you for saving the last group of Texas kids. At the bottom of the page you will see a bit of what we are facing with their rehab. However, once again we received a call asking for help. The above kids are some of the ones we were asked to save. (We won’t know for sure which ones we will be able to save until we have the funds to secure them.
Chilly Pepper Family asks to help save another mom and baby
This beautiful mama and her baby are scheduled to ship in three days. WE CAN SAVE THEM WITH YOUR HELP! But once again it is up to you. Matt is still in Texas, as complications have arisen with seven horses y’all just saved. All of the mares have clear Coggins (the blood test required for transport). However, only two of the mares received their Health certificates, so now we have to put the others in quarantine until we can get a Health certificate to bring them safely home.
Palomino puts out another last minute plea for saving mares and foals
MINUTES LEFT – Shipper is holding the truck. These three mares and foals are loading within the next half hour if we can’t raise funds. We are going on Faith, as Always, and have an extraordinary Angel who is helping save these. But we can’t save all of them without your help!!! This is an unusual situation for us, but for some reason God put these in front of us and made it clear we need to save them. PLEASE HELP! Matt will have to drive to Texas and pick them up, and he is willing.
Palomino: Babies need help now! Heading back out the door
Another Last Minute Call To Save The Orphans! Just got an urgent call from the shipper. Normally we get a day’s notice? But NOT today. There are three orphaned foals sitting at the shippers. They have already been pulled off their moms. Moms have shipped and babies are sitting in 100+ degree heat waiting for me to get there. One of them is supposed to be very young.
Palomino shares good news and bad news of urgent needs and severe health issue
Emergency help needed to re-open the orphanage and save the babies It’s been a while, and Matt and I have been running like crazy. We sorted once again this morning and he has 6 of our beautiful horses in the trailer on the way to their new homes at this moment. Last week we placed 6 of the babies and have more folks coming to pick up on Monday.
Good News: Orphan babies passed test, are cleared to travel
We have great news! We finally got the ALL CLEAR with regards to paperwork. We have to pull blood on each baby, and one of the tests had a “False – Positive”. The tests were coming back dirty, but the test was messed up. Since Coggins is such a deadly issue, we were under quarantine until the situation was cleared up. Thankfully, ALL BABIES ARE CLEARED TO TRAVEL !! Then the phone rang. On top of the 46?
Another day, another urgent 911 on the front lines of the orphan foal crisis
It sounds so dramatic, but when you are on the front lines and the only thing standing between these babies and a horrific death, or worse yet, a future as a “tripping horse“, it is ALWAYS an immediate need and the choice is life or death. I hate to use the word DESPERATE, but this situation is just that. We had over 50 babies between the other rescue and Chilly Pepper, and we took on 35 of those babies.
Palomino gives thanks for first group of kids donations—on standby on possibly 30 more ~ East Valley Times
Update on the orphans – THANK YOU everyone who donated for the first group of kids. Y’all came through and we were able to pick up all the babies yesterday. Some of them are camera shy lol…. Only showing a few here. THE PHONE RANG YET AGAIN….. WHILE we were getting these kids settled in, we received word that one of the catchers has another 80 horses he caught yesterday.

Palomino and crew on their way to Washington—need funds to hopefully to save new babies ~ East Valley Times
SHORT UPDATE – 911 – THE NEW BABIES NEED YOUR HELP NOW! We are on the road to WA. We have until 5 o’clock to raise more funds to save these orphans. It will take close to $2,000 JUST to purchase, get the blood work for Coggins with their health certificates, and get enough milk for a couple of days for the 10 orphans that we know of. The cost for milk averages $300 per baby per month, and that does not include hay and their grain.
URGENT: Babies waiting in Yakima Washington
URGENT update from Chilly Pepper. As of this minute, there are 3 babies waiting for me in Yakima, NOT counting the many at the shipper’s. (Thankfully our wonderful friend Kari Robi picked them up for me and Mama Mel is currently caring for them as I prepare to head back up.) The news is NOT GOOD. The trappers just pulled in another 200 horses and I was told there are lots of babies at the shipper’s. As y’all know, it could be 5, it could be 25. I never know until we arrive on scene.
Urgent help needed to save as many as they can to keep them off the truck
ONCE AGAIN, we have been given another 48-hour deadline…… The original eight were saved, and another rescue in WA thought that the six who were shipping on Friday had all been adopted. Unfortunately, folks did not come through and there are still four at risk to ship in 48 hours. There is also an additional bunch waiting to be loaded in 48 hours. YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT SAVED 24 LIVES !!!! You paid their bail and allowed us to do what was needed to save their lives.
Chilly Pepper—Miracle Mustang seek help in saving 25 at risk miniatures ~ East Valley Times
THE CLOCK IS TICKING on 25 new lives. – 25 Miniatures are at risk of dying, and we need your help to save them… We came together and saved 25 more Mustangs this last week. Thank You for making that possible. Out of those 25, we brought home 4 orphans and a badly injured mare and baby. Thankfully the extended network of folks came together to help.
Chilly Pepper—Last trip saved 18 lives, now 23 mares, foals, and badly injured horses need urgent help! ~ East Valley Times
WOW, it never seems to slow down. The last trip up here y’all saved 18 lives. That doesn’t include any of the other numerous expenses Luckily two of the babies came in with mom and the other one we were able to match up with a mare today. It cost over $1500 just to get the horses to where they are right now, for sorting etc. It is amazing how many expenses there are behind the scenes. Every time anything is done, there is a charge.
