Internal nutrient loading had become a problem in Aurora Reservoir, contributing yearly to a slow decline in overall reservoir conditions. Located in the front-range plains of the Rocky Mountains, the 32,000 acre-ft raw surface water storage reservoir for Aurora, Colo., is also used for recreation. Built in 1990, the reservoir has always been a source of high-quality raw water because the majority of its fill water is pumped from high-quality, low-nutrient mountain surface water.
