T needs to move fast on electric buses - CommonWealth Magazine
Editor’s note: This op-ed was written prior to the filing of Senate climate legislation mandating an all-electric MBTA bus fleet by 2040. RESIDENTS OF THE BOSTON AREA feel the pain of transportation problems daily. Congestion is crippling the region and policy-makers are struggling to implement short-term solutions to improve public transit services. But it is not just the physical presence of vehicles that makes us miserable.
SITTING IN: Better buses for better streets, eventually
By Paola Massoli Friday Oct 25, 2019 at 7:38 PM A street is a terrible thing to waste, says Transit Center in this 2018 video. Who wouldn’t agree with that? Supposedly, we would also agree that a street is a public space that should be safely shared among all travel modes: cars, bikes, public transit, and so on. In theory, it makes sense. In practice, things are more difficult.
MBTA’s electrification priorities stuck in traffic - CommonWealth Magazine
THE MBTA’S RECENT FOCUS40 REPORT outlining the 25-year investment plan to meet the transportation needs of the Greater Boston region makes no commitment to procuring electric buses beyond the testing of five electric buses on the Silverline through 2023. This plan lacks a sense of urgency, especially when we need bold action to invest in a modern, clean, equitable, transportation system that is good for our economy and public health while getting us closer to our climate goals.

Letter to the Editor: Brayton Point story part of transition to a low-carbon economy
Paola Massoli The story of how the town of Somerset has financially managed the shutdown of the Brayton Point power plant is another example of how well-designed market-based mechanisms can be instrumental in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative is a well-recognized double success because it has generated hundreds of million of dollars for the participating states while substantially cutting carbon emissions and improving air quality.
