Patrick Barta’s Biography

Patrick Barta is Enterprise Editor, International for The Wall Street Journal, based in Bangkok. He helps manage major investigations and features projects across the Journal's international bureaus, including Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

He previously worked in the Journal's Houston and New York bureaus, covering the U.S. economy and other subjects. He moved to Bangkok in 2004 and worked as a regional economics correspondent and as the Journal's Southeast Asia bureau chief before becoming Asia enterprise editor in 2012. He assumed his current role in 2024.

A native of Dallas, he holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
