What was your first job as a journalist?

Editorial assistant at a natural food and wellness magazine.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

That's where I learned to type, so that explains why I seem to be punching my laptop keyboard.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Knowing how to distill information.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Not a form email

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

AI audio transcription is helpful, but it needs to be double-checked.

Why did you become a journalist?

I love to write.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

My high school didn't have one, but I was executive editor of my college paper. Fun times!

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

My two-part series on the opioid overdose crisis in Burlington, Vermont.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Find your own voice. We all have one.

What's your favorite drink?

Coffee of course.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Out for a walk.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

The New Yorker never ceases to amaze me. Absolutely the best long-form journalism anywhere.
