81-1: Week One Overreactions
81-1: Week One Overreactions Last week was some of the best sleep I had gotten in a long time. Climbing into bed with the biggest, dumbest grin on my face, giddily scrolling through my phone on Canis, Reddit, and YouTube, seeing what everyone had to say about just how awesome the Minnesota Timberwolves are. Seriously, it was great.
11th Annual, Tried and True Canis Hoopus Opening Night Predictions
Another Timberwolves season is upon us as the clock winds down on the offseason. New faces and jerseys grace the Wolves this season as Minnesota fans hunker down for the winter and NBA basketball. It's time for our annual staff tradition of exactly predicting how the Wolves season will go. We've never EVER been wrong so buckle up.
The Official Doggelgangers of the 2026-27 Minnesota Timberwolves
We are 17 days away from the Wolves finally lacing up and hitting the court for real, so I thought what better way to put a tidy bow on an especially eventful offseason this year than by presenting you my official Wolves doggelgangers list! I must say, it took me an incredible amount of restraint not to call this a "Shih Tzu post", but beyond the forced pun, it would also be misleading as a Shih Tzu is nowhere to be found on this Wolves roster (more on that shortly).
They Forgot About Trey
I have a confession to make. In 2024, a time that feels like a lifetime ago, the Minnesota Timberwolves were in Sacramento for Game 2 of the new season. With 3:29 left in the first quarter, Keegan Murray was subbed out for Trey Lyles, a player I mostly remembered from his one year in college with the Kentucky Wildcats. That was all the way back in 2014-15, or roughly six lifetimes ago.
NBA Player Profile: Joan Beringer Gets His Hooves
NBA Player Profile: Joan Beringer Gets His Hooves It's our favorite form of off-season content: young player hype. A tale as old as time, where we get so psyched about a relative unknown, only for the engine to sputter and the bandwagon to ultimately crash, while the sad trombone player saunters in, once again, to smear those all-too-familiar descending four notes. But, I don't know, dare I say this one feels different?
How the Boulevardier Rooted an American Bartender in Paris
I landed at Harry’s Bar the way many stories in Paris begin: while chasing someone I loved. I didn’t speak French and had no real plan, but I’d seen a post that Harry’s was hiring. It was a long shot worth taking. I walked in and met Franz-Arthur MacElhone, the fifth-generation owner. I offered to do a one-week stage, and that turned into three years I never saw coming. Harry’s is one of the few bars in the world where time seems to hold still.
Divergent Molecular Pathways for Toxicity of Selected Mutant C9ORF72-derived Dipeptide Repeats
Abstract Expansion of a hexanucleotide repeat in a noncoding region of the C9ORF72 gene is responsible for a significant fraction of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) cases, but mechanisms linking mutant gene products to neuronal toxicity remain debatable. Pathogenesis was proposed to involve the production of toxic RNA species and/or accumulation of toxic dipeptide repeats (DPRs) but distinguishing between these mechanisms has been challenging.

Firehouse Hot Shots - November 2018
Vernon, CT, Sept. 24, 2018—Crews were toned out for numerous calls reporting a building fire on Hartford Turnpike. Companies arrived to find heavy fire through the roof in the rear of the café, which was located in the middle of a strip mall. The fire quickly moved to the front of the building, but crews were able to contain the fire to the store of origin. Photo by Patrick Dooley Lawrence, MA, Sept.
The Ukrainian Photographers That We Love – Post Pravda
Ukraine is a country where the conversations external to it are often drastically different from what is occurring within the culture. The constant duality of either Russian or Western integration reflects the absence of agency presented to Ukraine in the majority of affairs. Numerous frameworks exist intended to reveal the nature of Ukrainian culture. Is it an emerging bastion of democracy? Is it the front line of Russian aggression? Or, is it a post-Soviet counter-cultural mecca?

Dispatches | Global Trade Magazine
TRADE WARS The Portuguese, owners of this cannon at a Gujarat, India, fort, dramatically changed the commercial system centered on the Indian Ocean when they arrived in the 1490s.
TIME TO RIGHT THE SHIP | Global Trade Magazine
The era of President Trump has begun and early returns are … mixed. One thing is for sure: Trade is more prevalent as a household topic than at any time I can recall. Not just because Trump, in his first week, followed through on campaign promises to take a scythe to the Trans-Pacific Partnership and initiate the renegotiation of NAFTA, but because of, well, all the other stuff.

THE VIOLENT BIRTH OF CORPORATIONS | Global Trade Magazine
Why did 17th-century Europeans create the world’s first corporations? Looking back, the answer seems obvious: The corporation seems like such a logical way to do business, especially on a big scale, that the wonder is that they weren’t invented sooner. But the real answer turns out to be more complicated and only loosely related to the advantages of the corporate form today.

This year’s Global Logistics Planning Guide is here to help you in the immediate, with supply-chain advice for integrating with a 3PL (Pg. 50), shipping by air to Asia (Pg. 54), intermodal cross border options (Pg. 58), hiring a drayage carrier (Pg. 62) and whether you should set up your own warehousing (Pg. 64).
INTEGRATING SOLUTIONS WITH YOUR 3PL | Global Trade Magazine
Here’s one way to get your 3PL to provide a service you need: Ask. Third-party logistics providers will tell you that the development of many of their value-added services came as a result of customer requests. But here’s a little secret about 3PLs: They really don’t want to be in the value-added services business, if that means providing an a la carte menu for shippers to choose from. Instead, they want to form strategic relationships with shippers to provide integrated solutions.

5 REASONS TO EMBRACE THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY | Global Trade Magazine
As America wraps its head around having elected its first president with neither government nor military experience, we must decide whether to stay entrenched in the negative prognosticating that has permeated the long and brutal election cycle, or to look ahead to the positives that a Trump presidency could bring to the country and, for the purposes of Global Trade, to the international business community.
how brexit may determine the presidential election
This election, same as all previous elections, is the “most important in history.” Maybe that’s true this time. The inheritance likely awaiting either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton isn’t exactly a treasure trove of positivity: escalating war games with China and Russia, the divisive Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) in a holding pattern, all manner of violence ramping up domestically and around the world, and an economic recovery that’s proven as elusive as the Sasquatch.
Deflategate, Shmategate: Aren't We All Cheaters Anyway?
Few tears were shed outside of New England when an NFL-hired investigator found it probable that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was “at least generally aware” a locker room attendant and equipment assistant were conspiring to deflate game day balls to Brady’s liking. The scandal, dubbed “Deflategate,” ended in a four-game suspension for Brady, a $1 million fine for the team, and the loss of both a first and fourth round draft pick—not to mention some pretty bad publicity.
