Cubs’ John Mallee A Candidate for Mets’ Hitting Coach
The Mets don’t have a ton of work to do on the coaching staff this offseason, with Andy Green locked in at the helm and most of the coaches returning to their roles. But the Mets didn’t renew the contract of Jeff Albert, their director of MLB hitting, and they’re looking to add another voice to the dugout. Previously, it was reported that old friend Kevin Long is a candidate—the Mets were scheduled to speak to him Tuesday.
ALCS Game 2 Thread: Peralta, Rays Take On Guardians
Tuesday, October 12, 2026 • 8:00 PM ET Tropicana Field • St. Petersburg, FL LHP Parker Messick vs. RHP Freddy Peralta TBS/HBO Max The Cleveland Guardians, down 2-0 for half the night, scored seven runs on Monday across the final four frames and beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-3 in Game 1 of the ALCS. They survived six strong innings from the Rays’ Drew Rasmussen and will now turn to Parker Messick, the ace of their staff, to lead them to another win.
2026 Report Card: Traded Players (Peralta, Holmes & More)
This Mets season was defined largely by what it wasn’t, who didn’t perform, and who ultimately was traded away from the team. Blame for the season has partly been placed on some of these players, while others were merely victims of the Mets’ overall record at the trade deadline. So let’s take a look at these players and how they performed with the Mets this year. Steven Bisig-Imagn Images Grade: D Ultimately, for the Mets and Freddy Peralta, it just didn’t work out.
NLDS Game 3 Thread: Dodgers, Braves Face Off, Padres Face Elimination
The ALCS, despite some intriguing games, sees both series up 2-0 at the moment—the White Sox over the Guardians and the Rays over the Yankees. The NLCS nearly faced the same threat, but the Braves unloaded all of their best arms on Sunday to beat the Dodgers 3-2 in a thrilling game. Now, the Dodgers head to Atlanta with an even series and facing the Braves’ one true ace.
2026 Wild Card Game Thread: Postseason Gets Underway
Happy playoffs! Sadly, the Mets didn’t make it for the second straight year, but we’ll be watching anyway. (There’s still plenty of hate watching to do.) All Game 1s of the Wild Card round start today, beginning with the Braves and Phillies at 2 p.m. and ending with the Cubs and Padres at 10 p.m. That’ll be about 12 hours of playoff baseball. We’ll take it.
Mets Minors Recap: Santucci Strong Again
Tuesday was a day full of minor league Mets offense with home runs coming in bunches. Jonathan Santucci had another strong start, Irving Cota and Ryan Lambert looked good in their rehab assignments, and Aiden Robbins began his Brooklyn tenure with a bang. Jonathan Santucci.
Núñez, Lavender Among Those Called Up Post-Trade Deadline
The Mets had themselves a hectic 24 hours at the trade deadline, dealing away about 20 percent of their active roster as they officially waved the white flag on the 2026 season. Among those traded were Freddy Peralta, Luke Weaver, Huascar Brazoban, Clay Holmes, Tyrone Taylor and Brooks Raley. Five of them were on the active roster.
Minors Game Thread: Clay Holmes Continues Rehab
With the trade deadline nearing, Clay Holmes has surfaced as a name the Mets could deal—especially in a thin starting pitcher market. The only problem is he hasn’t pitched in an MLB game since May 15 due to a fractured leg. Before that, he notched a 2.39 ERA across 52 2/3 innings this year, providing the only level of consistency in the Mets rotation to that point.
Game Thread: AL All-Stars vs. NL All-Stars, 8:00 PM
Tuesday, July 14, 2026 • 8:00 PM Citizens Bank Park • Philadelphia, PA RHP Dylan Cease (6-4, 2.56 ERA) vs. LHP Christopher Sánchez (11-4, 2.62 ERA) FOX • ESPN Radio The Summer Classic heads to the original capital of the United States on Tuesday as the NL All-Stars host the AL All-Stars at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. After losing nine All-Star Games in a row, the NL has now won two of the last three.
Who Could Get Traded This Deadline?
The Mets look just about out of the playoff race before July 1. Harrumph. Naturally, they’ll have some players dealt at the trade deadline (August 3, 6 p.m.), and we’ll poke through those here. But it’s also worth exploring who else could get traded with the deadline about five weeks away. These players could be who the Mets will negotiate against with other teams. Let’s take a look.
Stearns: “We Haven’t Been Able to Get This Going This Year”
Following Carlos Mendoza’s firing, a visually dejected David Stearns addressed the media about the decision and disappointment of the 2026 season so far. “Despite all of our efforts, Mendy’s included, we haven’t been able to get this going this year,” Stearns began the press conference. “And I take responsibility for that.” Let’s look at some key points/revelations from the press conference: Stearns said that turning this around will be incremental.
Juan Soto Leaves Tuesday’s Game vs. Cubs
The hits keep on coming. Juan Soto has left Tuesday’s game against the Cubs after the fourth inning. No reason has been announced. He was replaced by Mark Vientos in the lineup, and Jared Young moved from first to left field. Soto was replaced after two at-bats. He was seen previously in the dugout with a brace/heating pad on his lower back. He was removed from the game with the team down 7-2 after Kodai Senga allowed seven runs in 3.2 innings.
Stearns: Rotation is on “Turn-by-Turn” Basis
With the Mets set to play four games within 48 hours, what’s bothered the Mets the last month is in question again: what’s up with their rotation? While addressing the media Tuesday, David Stearns said the Mets will continue to evaluate the rotation on a “turn-by-turn” basis. Like the offense earlier in the year, Stearns said the team hasn’t received “consistent” performance from its starters.
Francisco Alvarez Injures Knee; Will Receive Imaging
Francisco Alvarez was removed from the game in the bottom of the sixth inning of Tuesday’s game after fouling off a pitch. The 24-year-old catcher faced a 2-2 count and came up lame after swinging at a pitch and seemingly twisting his knee. He also extended for the first-base bag a couple of innings previously, trying (and successfully) beating out a double play ball, which ultimately scored a run. Luis Torres replaced Alvarez, who will get imaging done on his knee.
Phillies Fire Manager Rob Thomson
Not the managerial firing article you thought you’d get, huh? The Philadelphia Phillies, mired in their own woes, have fired manager Rob Thomson, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic. Don Mattingly is taking over as interim manager. The team confirmed the report. Thomson becomes the second manager fired this early in the season in 2026, following Alex Cora‘s dismissal from the Red Sox.

WBC Game Chat: Nolan McLean Takes on Italy
After Japan won its game this morning 9-0, securing a 4-0 record in pool play, there are three more WBC games Tuesday night on the penultimate day of games before the knockout round. Let’s run through some brief previews of the games, and chat away in the comments below! Francisco Lindor to be Evaluated for Hamate Bone Injury
Francisco Lindor‘s Opening Day status is in jeopardy before spring training officially starts. Francisco Lindor (12) Credit: Jordan Godfree-Imagn Images With pitchers and catchers officially reporting for the 2026 season on Wednesday, Francisco Lindor with be with the medical team being evaluated for a stress fracture in his left hamate bone. 2026 NL East Positional Rankings: Catcher
We continue our NL East positional rankings today with the catcher position. First base Second base Third base Given the nature of the position, where 120 games squatting behind the plate is a lot nowadays, we’ll look at each team’s primary player manning the position, which will cause some difficulty with where to place the Braves. (They have two quality players who will likely split time behind the plate.) But let’s give it a shot.
MMO Weekly Ep. 125: Do Something, Mets!
On the latest episode of MMO Weekly, the fellas—Sal Manzo, Mathias Altman-Kurosaki and Chris Bello—discuss the frigid offseason, the Alex Bregman signing, and what the Mets’ next key move should be. “You want to try and win now, especially in a division where, let’s be frankly honest, it’s kind of taking a downturn,” Chris Bello said. Rumor Roundup: Mets "Very In" on Bellinger, "Looking At" Tucker
As the winter roles on, things have come to a bit of a stall the last couple days. The last notable signing across all MLB was the Mets inking Jorge Polanco to a two-year deal. So, we’ve had to rely on the hot stove to get us through the cold days. Jerome Miron-Imagn Images Tuesday morning, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com joined the actual Hot Stove (the MLB show) to dish on the latest rumors.
Edwin Diaz Agrees to Deal with Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to a contract with Edwin Diaz, according to The Athletic‘s Will Sammon. Contract details to come. Díaz, the Mets’ closer since 2019, opted out of a five-year deal with the Mets after the third season. He amassed 144 saves and a 2.93 ERA with the team over six seasons. Though Díaz had ups and downs as the team’s closer, he’s had a rubber arm over his career and missed minimal time to any arm injuries.
Rumor Roundup: Mets Linked to Kyle Schwarber
With the Winter Meetings underway, the hope is that the hot stove heats up and signings start to come. Monday started with a bit of a banger, with the NY Post reporting that the Mets have shown interest in slugger Kyle Schwarber. Schwarber, who turns 33 in March, has mashed 187 homers over the last four seasons with the Phillies with a .226/.349/.507/.856 slash line. The Mets have had a designated hitter problem for years, rarely finding consistency from a single player at the position.
Mets Protect Nick Morabito from Rule 5 Draft
The Mets will add prospect Nick Morabito to the 40-man roster ahead of Tuesday’s Rule 5 draft deadline, sources tell Metsmerized’s Mike Mayer. Morabito, who will turn 23 in May, is a speedy, plus-defender in the outfield who played all of 2025 at Double-A Binghamton. There, he slashed .273/.348/.385/.734 over the course of the season. He has minimal power, but once on base, he stole 49 bags.
2025 New York Mets Report Cards
Earlier in October, we lamented having to start grading the 2025 Mets after an abrupt end. The 2025 season deserved an immediate and slightly emotional analysis of the disappointment that was the past season. We decided the grades of players’ performances couldn’t soften with time. With grades given, here is every report card for the 2025 New York Mets.
Stearns: Carson Benge Will Have A Chance to Make Team in 2026
David Stearns is attending the general manager meetings in Las Vegas this week, and he spoke with reporters for the first time since his season-ending debrief in October. He was asked about his offseason plans for the team and plans for what the 2026 roster will look like, and one statement stood out: he said Carson Benge will come to spring training with a shot to make the team.
Where the Mets' 2026 Payroll Stands to Start the Offseason
MLB free agency is underway, player options have been picked up, and general managers meet this week in Las Vegas to kickstart the offseason ahead of the Winter Meetings next month. The Mets surely will be active on the free agent market (as well as the trade market), with the team expected to spend enough to bolster a roster that’s losing Pete Alonso, Edwin Diaz, Tyler Rogers, Starling Marte, and a dozen others.
2025 Report Card: Tyrone Taylor, CF
Tyrone Taylor, CF Age: B/T: R/R Primary Stats: 341 PAs, .223/.279/.319/.598, 69 H, 2 HR, 27 RBI Advanced Stats: 70 wRC+, 4.7 BB%, 22.3 K%, .286 BABIP, .306 xwOBA, 0.8 fWAR, 1.2 bWAR, 8 DRS, 3 OAA 2025 salary: $3.03 million What a tough year for Tyrone Taylor. Coming into the year, if the 31-year-old could just repeat his wonderful 2024, in which he played the fourth outfielder role perfectly for a team that made an NLCS run, the Mets would take it.
World Series Game 4 Chat: Blue Jays vs. Dodgers, 8:00 PM
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Los Angeles Dodgers RHP Shane Bieber (1-0, 4.38 ERA) vs. RHP Shohei Ohtani (2-0, 2.25) Tuesday, October 28, 2025 – Dodger Stadium – 8:00 PM EST TV – FOX RADIO – ESPN Radio Well, at least tonight won’t go 18 innings! Another marathon playoff game took place last night, with the Dodgers and Blue Jays going 18 innings in Game 3. Ultimately, the Blue Jays fell after a walk-off Freddie Freeman home run.
Sifting Through Center Field Options for the Mets
We know center field will be a key area for the Mets to address this offseason. Their output from the position last year was poor. Tyrone Taylor was great on defense but was one of the worst hitters in baseball for five of the season’s six months, José Siri was out basically all year and didn’t play well when he did, and Cedric Mullins, who was meant to shore up the position at the deadline, didn’t play either side of the ball well.
Steve Cohen's Casino Nears Reality After MGM Drops Bid
New York Mets owner Steve Cohen is closer to getting his casino for the Metropolitan Park development after a surprising turn of events in New York’s bid for casino licenses. MGM Empire City planned to open a $2.3 billion casino and resort in Yonkers and was seen as a favorite to land one of the three casino licenses (along with Resorts World, which already exists as a limited casino and race track).
NLCS Game 2 Chat: Dodgers vs. Brewers, 8:08 PM
Tuesday, October 14, 2025 • 8:08 PM ET American Family Field • Milwaukee, WI RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto (1-1, 2.53 ERA) vs. RHP Freddy Peralta (1-1, 4.66 ERA) TBS • HBO Max The Dodgers won Game 1 of the 2025 NLCS 2-1 on Monday night behind a dominant outing from Blake Snell and despite one of the most insane and bizarre double plays baseball’s ever seen.
Five Teams That Could Sign Pete Alonso
Pete Alonso will soon be a free agent again when he declines his 2026 player option after the World Series. Last year, Alonso’s offseason saw sparse interest from teams in giving him a long-term guaranteed deal over nine figures. So, the 30-year-old first baseman returned to his creature comforts in New York on essentially a one-year deal, allowing him to become the Mets’ franchise leader in home runs before hitting the market again.
Mets' Key 2025-2026 Offseason Dates
Though most of the league has started its offseason already, teams can’t really start making any roster moves until the World Series is over. The Mets will have plenty to make and have spent the playoffs so far shedding most of their coaching staff and, presumably, narrowing down the list of whom they want to interview for which coaching positions. Here are the key dates for the Mets for the rest of the offseason. The 2025 World Series will finish as early as October 28 and as late as November 1.
What Starting Pitchers Could the Mets Target This Offseason?
The Mets’ starting pitchers are probably the most scrutinized group coming out of the 2025 season, and reasonably so. You know the headline stat: Mets starters were first in ERA (2.79) in baseball through June 12, then the season blew up, and they were 27th in the league (5.27) across the rest of the year. It’s an area the Mets must address this winter, and they can’t simply patch things together or count on health.
Grading the 2025 Mets
It sucks that we already have to start grading the 2025 Mets. We all thought we could wait until Friday, at the earliest. But here we are. This year, we’re going to release all the grades for the report cards today, then release individual report cards taking more in-depth looks at each player as we usually do. (David Peterson will be the first on Wednesday.) One of the tougher things behind the scenes come report card time is, naturally, settling on the exact grade.
Interpreting David Stearns' Closing Presser & the Path Forward
David Stearns put a cap on the “tremendously disappointing” 2025 season with a press conference on Monday. He owned up to the construction of the roster and, ultimately, its performance. He highlighted three areas where the team didn’t do well enough this year: Run prevention Defense “Failed to score the runs we needed to score” Let’s take a deeper look at each of these problem areas, and then, I want to look at what the offseason plan could look like.
Crossfire: Call Up McLean or Sproat
I’d call the Mets’ starting pitching their Achilles’ heel the last two months, but the whole team has played poorly since June 12. However, only David Peterson has pitched six innings or more for the team over the last two months. That’s bad. Frankie Montas has been perhaps the worst culprit, averaging right around 4 1/3 innings per appearance since his season debut in late June. His time in the rotation should end for 2025. Paul Blackburn makes sense to get his start the next time around on Friday.
Juan Soto Leaves Game with Injury
Juan Soto left Tuesday night’s game against the San Diego Padres after fouling a ball off his leg. In the top of the third, Soto fouled a ball off his right leg, and needed a couple of minutes after doing so to recoup. Trainers checked on Soto, but he grounded out and stayed in for the bottom of the third. However, when the team came out for defense in the fourth, he was replaced by Tyrone Taylor in center.
2025 All-Star Game Chat: AL vs. NL, 8:00 PM
Tuesday, July 14, 2025 • 8:00 pm ET Truist Park • Cumberland, GA LHP Tarik Skubal (10-3, 2.23 ERA) vs. RHP Paul Skenes (4-8, 2.01 ERA) FOX The 95th edition of the MLB All-Star Game is tonight, and the Mets are well-represented! Francisco Lindor earned his first All-Star nomination as a Met (and fifth overall), and Pete Alonso notched his fifth, as well.
Mets, Brewers Postponed; Doubleheader Set for Wednesday
The Mets have postponed their Tuesday night matchup with the Milwaukee Brewers. They will play a doubleheader on Wednesday, July 2. The doubleheader is planned to be a split affair, with the first game at 1:10 p.m. and second to start at its regularly scheduled 7:10 p.m. time. The team postponed the game ahead of inclement weather expected Tuesday night in the Northeast. The Phillies and Nationals have also postponed their matchups for Tuesday night.
MLB Reinstates Pete Rose, "Shoeless" Joe Jackson,
MLB announced Tuesday it has reinstated Pete Rose, “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, and 15 others—all deceased—who had previously been on the permanently ineligible list due to gambling on baseball. Due to their reinstatement, they are eligible to enter the Hall of Fame. In a statement to Pete Rose’s attorney following the decision, Commissioner Rob Manfred said, “In my view, once an individual has passed away, the purposes of Rule 21 (the rule against misconduct in baseball) have been served.
The Biggest Winners & Losers of Spring Training
Opening Day is just two days away, and with spring officially in the books, let’s take a look at the players who gained the most—and may have lost the most—based on their spring training performances. Brett Baty Well, well, well. If it isn’t Brett Baty on this list again. I’m not sure if we’ve done this type of article in the past, but Baty would’ve made an appearance in the winner’s column at least one or two other times. But this time, it feels a bit different.
Mets 2025 Prospects: No. 2 Jett Williams
No. 2 Jett Williams B/T: R/R Age: 21 Ht: 5’7″ Weight: 175 lbs Acquired: First-round pick (14th overall) in 2022 ETA: 2025 Previous Rank: 1 2024 Stats: 33 G, .215/.358/.298/.656, 148 PA, 0 HR, 4 RBI, 22 R, 8 2B, 1 3B, 14.9 BB%, 23.6 K%, 5 SB Jett Williams, one of the the Mets’ 2022 first round picks, was supposed to have his breakout year in 2024.
Crossfire: Tylor Megill vs. Paul Blackburn
The Mets have themselves a rotation battle this spring — the product of injuries to Sean Manaea and Frankie Montas, and a potential plan for an eventual six-man rotation. Kodai Senga, Clay Holmes and David Peterson were locks for the rotation coming into spring. Griffin Canning‘s performance (10 IP, 16 K, 0.90 ERA) and his guaranteed contract have made him another lock.
Mets 2025 Prospects: No. 7 Elian Peña
No. 7: Elian Peña, SS B/T: L/R Age: 17 (10/19/2007) Height: 5’10” Weight: 180 lbs Acquired: 2025 international free agency, $5 million bonus ETA: 2030 The young Elian Peña makes his debut on Metsmerized’s prospect rankings at No. 7—a $5 million signing bonus and belief he was the best non-Roki Sasaki international free agent of his class will do that. He was enough of a prospect to register at-bats in the Nicaraguan Winter League two years ago at just 15 years old.
Mets 2025 Opening Day Roster Projection 2.0
There are just 16 days until Opening Day, and after an eventful last couple of weeks for the Mets, it feels appropriate to project who the Mets will break camp with. (We’ll do a final one in two weeks after they’ve played their last spring game.) Let’s dive in. Francisco Lindor, SS Juan Soto, RF Mark Vientos, 3B Pete Alonso, 1B Brandon Nimmo, LF Jesse Winker, DH Jeff McNeil, 2B Jose Siri, CF Luis Torrens, C The biggest shakeup here is Luis Torrens breaking camp as the Mets’ starting catcher.
Mets 2025 Opening Day Roster Projection 1.0
Late last month, Allison drew up a “way too early” roster projection. That proved to be right, as the Mets have signed Pete Alonso, Ryne Stanek and Nick Madrigal since then. Naturally, there still way be moves made, and injuries still happen, but the Mets’ roster looks pretty complete. So, with spring training officially underway today and most of the team’s move behind them, let’s project what the Mets’ Opening Day roster will look like.
Senga "Not Worried At All" About Shoulder
With players—primarily pitchers and catchers—reporting to Port St. Lucie this week, we’re starting to get updates from players we haven’t heard from all winter. Leaving the 2024 season, as magical as it was, there was a glaring disappointment in Kodai Senga as he suffered a shoulder injury in camp, then once he finally ramped up to pitch after the All-Star break, he injured his calf chasing a ball off the mound in his first start back.
Answering Baty, Acuña & Mauricio's Biggest Questions Heading Into 2025
The Mets seem comfortable moving on from Pete Alonso, though it’s not a guarantee they will. If they do, the plan seems to be to move Mark Vientos to first and have an internal player man third base. The three names tossed around are Brett Baty, Luisangel Acuña and Ronny Mauricio—three players who deserve a shot (if they haven’t already spoiled theirs) to see if they’re a long-term fit.
