Targeted tax relief and house prices: New evidence of capitalization
1 INTRODUCTION Economic theory suggests that higher property taxes should lead to lower house prices, as prospective buyers factor the tax burden into their willingness to pay (Oates, 1969). Empirically, however, identifying this effect is challenging because homeowners within the same neighborhood typically face the same property tax rate.
Model-Informed Decision Making from Drug Discovery to Reimbursement: A Roadmap for Clinical Pharmacology in Value-Based Healthcare
Introduction: The Expanding Scope of Model-Informed Drug Development MIDD encompasses a broad set of quantitative methods to improve our ability to predict and understand drug behavior via evaluation of compound pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD).

How do homeowners, teachers, and students respond to a four-day school week?
1 INTRODUCTION School funding challenges intensified during the Great Recession, with 29 states allocating less state funding per student in 2015 than in 2008 (Leachman et al., 2017). Not only did school districts have fewer financial resources, but they also faced heightened competition for a smaller pool of qualified teachers (Sutcher et al., 2016).
Impact of donor age on cognitive recovery in allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplant patients with mild cognitive impairment
|
Many candidates for hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) may struggle with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), with estimates ranging from 17–50% and up to 68% of older adults [1, 2]. Pre-HCT MCI is often due to the cumulative effects of chemotherapy, radiation, and disease-related factors prior to HCT.

The Dream Emporium
As recorded by Maron — Sage of Elhrub Year 151 For the last twenty years, my name was Marinko. Before that, I was Maron, a troop commander in Neria. In the year 130, King Sarmin promoted his cousin, Countess Urta, to general and gave her command of the Eleventh Regiment. A few days after her promotion, my unit was reassigned to the Eleventh, and we marched to Urosa. Several of the men in my command were not happy being reassigned and forced to relocate.

Early‐stage randomised controlled trial of therapist‐supported online cognitive therapy for post‐traumatic stress disorder in young people
Introduction Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in young people is highly distressing, associated with marked impairments in functioning, and can persist for years (Yule et al., 2000) or decades (Morgan, Scourfield, Williams, Jasper, & Lewis, 2003) if not treated.
Welcome back to the Welch
Anne Seymour enjoys explaining that the William H. Welch Medical Library not only houses books, but is actually built on them. On a tour of its basement stacks, the associate dean points out rows of stout, floor-to-ceiling metal bookshelves bolstered at either end by the kind of iron I-beams that support skyscrapers.
Revisiting the use of adverse childhood experience screening in healthcare settings - Nature Reviews Psychology
Abstract Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are key modifiable risk factors for mental illness. The potential to detect and mitigate ACEs to improve population mental health has led to large public health efforts. However, basing public mental health decisions on ACE screening has revealed several conspicuous challenges.
The Counterintuitive Relationship between Orbital Energy, Orbital Overlap, and Bond Covalency in CeF62– and CeCl62– Original
Introduction Click to copy section linkSection link copied! Cerium holds a unique position among the other lanthanide elements because it can access the tetravalent (4f0) oxidation state in a wide range of chemical environments. In its trivalent state, spectroscopic and computational techniques have shown that the Ce 4f orbitals are core-like and only weakly involved in covalent bonding.

Inkjet Printing Magnetostrictive Materials for Structural Health Monitoring of Carbon Fibre-Reinforced Polymer Composite
1. Introduction Printed electronics via inkjet printing onto substrates such as on printed circuit boards (PCB) have been around for decades. This method has gained an interest in printing smart magnetic materials for sensors and actuators [1]. One area of research is printing magnetostrictive sensors for structural health monitoring (SHM) of carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite.
4f-Orbital mixing increases the magnetic susceptibility of Cp′3Eu
4f-Orbital mixing increases the magnetic susceptibility of Cp′3Eu† Traditional models of lanthanide electronic structure suggest that bonding is predominantly ionic, and that covalent orbital mixing is not an important factor in determining magnetic properties. Here, 4f orbital mixing and its impact on the magnetic susceptibility of Cp′3Eu (Cp′ = C5H4SiMe3) was analyzed experimentally using magnetometry and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) methods at the C K-, Eu M5,4-, and L3-edges.
Researchers explore links between gut bacteria and colon cancer
This article was originally published by Dome in its May/June 2024 issue. While the incidence of colorectal cancer has decreased among the U.S. population overall, there has been a gradual, and alarming, increase in diagnoses among Americans under age 50. Earlier this year, the American Cancer Society reported that Americans born around 1990 have twice the risk of colon cancer compared with people born in the 1950s.

Writer's Purgatory
Shortly after 6 P. M. Rafael sat down at his computer with one of his large spiral notebooks. "One last chapter and I'm done with this," he said as he pulled up the novel he had been working on since he won a creative writing award as a freshman in high school. The bookcases that lined the walls of his small two-bedroom apartment held the books he had read, various binders containing half-finished drafts, and knick knacks that fed his imagination.
School quality as a catalyst for bidding wars and new housing development
1 INTRODUCTION And so it was that middle-class families across America have been quietly drawn into an all-out war…Their war has received little coverage in the press and no attention from politicians, but it has profoundly altered the lives of parents everywhere, shaping every economic decision they make. Their war is a bidding war…[in which] millions of parents joined in the search for a house on a safe street with a good school nearby.
