You're such a tease: can film trailers reveal too much too soon?

You're such a tease: can film trailers reveal too much too soon?

Guardian — Marketing a film in the digital age can be tricky to get right. There's perpetual tug of war between fans who want to find out about the film before its release and the film companies who want to protect their project; at the same time, film-makers also want to promote and create excitement about their films by giving the fans snippets of what they want. But consider this: in a situation where the fans think they have won the tug of war by extracting snippets of new information about a particular film, it could be that the film company marketing gurus have simply let go of the rope.

5 Reasons For Making a Twitter List

5 Reasons For Making a Twitter List

standoutinthecloud.wordpress.com — Making a Twitter list may initially seem like a pretty drab affair, however, there are a number of ways that it can help you expand your digital footprint. I'm going to use an example of one I made for my course which is a list of all the people who might be a source of news for the ward of Hackney Downs in London (don't ask). 1) It widens your horizons The first benefit is that it forces you to explore your list theme. I already knew and followed some people who Tweeted about Hackney but by setting out to find the 20 most useful ones I looked at and found far more.

Stand Out In The Cloud

Stand Out In The Cloud

standoutinthecloud.wordpress.com — I recently started a journalism course at City University and my first official lecture was given by digital journalism guru Paul Bradshaw. In it he repeatedly used the term 'curation' in a way which I had never encountered before. Don't curators work in museums? Somewhat perplexed, at the end of the lecture I asked if he could define it. To which he said that curation "is what journalists do anyway". I vaguely understood what he meant but still didn't really feel as though I'd grasped the concept to any degree of confidence.

We've decided to find out by making lyric clouds of each of his albums to illustrate which words he used the most on each one. The results are quite interesting.
