Here Are the Lyrics to Justin Moore's 'The Ones That Didn't Make It Back Home'
Cody Villalobos Justin Moore Justin Moore's "The Ones That Didn't Make It Back Home" is an ode to loved ones lost, specifically those serving in the military. Its accompanying music video shows the intertwined lives of a soldier, teacher, police officer and firefighter, all facing dangerous situations but continuing on for their families. "The Ones That Didn't Make It Back Home" was the lead single off of Moore's latest album Late Nights and Longnecks, released July 26.
How to Handle Own Goals
Steve Smith is a Scotland-born, Canada-raised hockey defenseman whose NHL career spanned 15 seasons. He is less well known for winning three Stanley Cup championships than for a single mistake. In 1986, while a rookie skating for the 2-time defending Stanley Cup champion Edmonton Oilers, Smith took the puck behind his own net and looked up ice for a teammate to hit with an outlet pass.
Whoa - not so fast City Council on Tobacco21
Whoa — not so fast City Council on Tobacco21 Tobacco21, a public health nonprofit organization, has arrived in San Antonio looking to help our city reduce nicotine consumption and addiction for the betterment of public health. Its current focus is to influence our municipal and state governments to raise the legal minimum sales age of tobacco to 21 years old.
City Council must engage with citizens who come to speak
City Council must engage with citizens who come to speak I was excited when I learned that every Wednesday evening there is an official public meeting of San Antonio citizens and City Council members. I signed up, wrote my three-minute speech, and headed to the council chambers with a nervousness about what I was going to say, and how it was going to be heard by the council. I found my seat just before 6 p.m. and saw there were only 20 or 25 people in attendance.
Want more representation? Get more representatives
Want more representation? Get more representatives As population grows, our politicians gain even more power. I spent a good chunk of 2015 lobbying politicians and community organizations to implement a crowd-sourced, virtual suggestion box for our local government. The idea was, if we can all contribute our best ideas to a single, open discussion forum, we can organize our dialogue with city government in a more effective and efficient manner.
210 Podcast: Meet Trey Martinez Fischer and José Menéndez
For our second episode of The 210 Podcast, host Mari Aguirre-Rodriguez interviewed two candidates who are quite familiar with each other , state Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer and state Sen. José Menéndez. These two experienced legislators are battling for Senate District 26, again. Menéndez beat Martinez Fischer (59% to 41%) during a special election in January 2015 after Leticia Van de Putte vacated her seat for a Mayoral campaign.
SA Tomorrow: Virtual Town Hall Shows Future of Civic Engagement
When Councilman Ron Nirenberg (D8) attended several City meetings in October via video-conference, council members joked about his physical absence, but those videos set an important precedent for new modes of civic engagement in San Antonio. If City leaders can use virtual presence for official government meetings, then citizens should be able to do the same.
San Antonio Needs More City Council Districts
The City has made it a priority to start planning for the expected one million new citizens migrating to San Antonio by 2040. Efforts to address urban planning, sustainability, and transportation are underway through an effort led by the City and SA2020 called SA Tomorrow. One important piece seems to be missing — a plan for modernizing our system of representation in local government.
Downtown is bigger than we think
Downtown is bigger than we think The Pearl is now considered a part of downtown San Antonio. At the Downtown Best Awards recently, Christopher “Kit” Goldsbury was awarded Downtowner of the Year. Kit is the billionaire who founded The Pearl — an amazing mixed-use real estate development project that revitalized a region of central San Antonio and a northern portion of the River Walk. San Antonians might be confused, though. I’ve never heard anyone say they are “going downtown” to The Pearl.
Do You Know Who Lives Nextdoor?
According to a 2013 study, only 61% of American homeowners know their neighbors’ names. For renters, only 39%. This probably isn’t shocking to most but it clearly illustrates the social disconnect between us and the people we live closest to. If you are looking for a culprit, technology often takes the blame. Children don’t play outside as often as in the past, opting for indoor activities like video games and spending time online.
