Yes, I’m sure it was the green tunic.” You hear a lot of that kind of conversation around the Community Synagogue these days. The Classic Horror Film Board-ALONG THE MOONBEAM TRAIL- 1921 dinosaur stop-motion
Share with: Link: 17K1,310 This short subject really deserves the adjective "legendary," since its absence from the public eye has caused any number of speculative stories to spring up over the decades. Like GHOST OF SLUMBER MOUNTAIN, it is an early combination of articulated dinosaur puppets and live action. Since not one but two copies of at least the bulk of the film have been discovered recently and screened, I figure the little bugger ought to have its own thread. How was it....
The Classic Horror Film Board-Was the Downfall of AIP their attempt to go major?
We've updated our Privacy Policy and by continuing you're agreeing to the updated terms. Share with: Link: 54518 I was thinking this. Did AIP kill themselves by releasing non-traditional mainstream stuff such as Meteor and Force 10 from Navarone? Their biggest successes were more traditional for AIP, the Amityville Horror and Love AT First Bite, a more original retread of their 1975 flop Vampira/Old Dracula with David Niven. Was Orion Pictures ever a major?
The Classic Horror Film Board-LOOK WHAT'S HAPPENED TO ROSEMARY'S BABY (1976)
I had faint memories of watching this on its initial telecast in '76 - memories so faint, I wondered if I hadn't simply imagined the whole thing, because, really - who in their right mind would have thought that a made-for-TV sequel to ROSEMARY'S BABY was a good idea? But it's real, and just as comically ill-advised as it sounds.
The Classic Horror Film Board-2+5 MISSIONE HYDRA (1966) (as opposed to STAR PILOT)
Member 3,1713,293 I've always been quite fond of the music, art direction, and general ambience of 2 + 5 MISSIONE HYDRA (1966), which apparently didn't reach the U.S. until 1977, in an abridged version retitled STAR PILOT. It's obvious when watching STAR PILOT that whole scenes have been cut out; the film's original running time was reportedly 89 minutes, and the U.S. recut runs just 80 minutes.

The Classic Horror Film Board-MAN FROM ATLANTIS
As part of my project to review every superhero or superhero-adjacent film out there (as well as selected tv shows) I watched streaming versions of the four TV-movies that preceded the MFA series. I found them deadly dull and am at this moment watching one of the regular episodes to see if it's better paced-- but just one cause I've spent enough time with Mark Harris now. Here's a paragraph that some may agree with or argue with.

I will probably make an exception if I encounter a situation where, say, an original chapterplay has been lost and the compilation is all that's left of it.

The Classic Horror Film Board-A Forgotten TV Terror from the 1970s - Classic Ghost Stories: The Deadly Visitor
A few weeks back, while discussing next month’s upcoming streaming by UCLA of The House and the Brain, I made mention of having had the chance to screen another rare TV Terror from the 1970s, The Deadly Visitor. The Classic Horror Film Board-Six She's and a He
36K18,868 Yes, I recognize the problem with that apostrophe in the title, but that's the way it appears onscreen. I would have done it differently, as did whoever made up the posters and pressbooks. Now if they'd just learn how to spell "exhibitor." It may not be exactly kosher, but capitalizing SHE and lower-casing the pluralizing "s" just looks better to me. Of course, even better would be a different title altogether.

The Classic Horror Film Board-The Undertaker and His Pals
Anyone else seen this little 63 minute gem? I found it on a $5, 15-movie dvd at Walmart today and was intrigued when I saw Robert Lowery's name listed in the credits on the box. I wondered if it was the same Robert Lowery from The Mummy's Ghost? Turns out it was him, in a very small part! The movie proper plays like a comedy/gorefest, similar to Blood Feast, with plenty of inane dialogue, bad acting and oddball music.

Love the creatures, most especially the giant slug thing at the end, with the rotating eye. I remember first seeing this on either the 4:30 Movie or Million Dollar Movie in the early 70's. And ya gotta love Gerald Mohr, sort of the poor man's Bogart. (He had a great voice for cartoons as well).

The Classic Horror Film Board-THE CUBE (1969) on NBC's "Experiment In Television"
Jun 15, 2014#32014-06-15T03:19+00:00 Apparently lots of people saw this when it first aired, and spent the subsequent decades wondering what the heck it was - there are quite a few blog posts and IMDB comments to that effect. That was my experience with it - didn't remember what it was called, never knew who was in it or who made it, but never forgot the strange and unique atmosphere, or the twist ending.
The Classic Horror Film Board-HOW TO MAKE A MAN (1961) - Broadway's notorious sci-fi flop
In A Chronicle of Comedy and Drama, 1930-1969, by Gerald Bordman, the author notes that “Some of the [1961] season’s worst notices went to HOW TO MAKE A MAN … a comedy derived by William Welch from Clifford Simak's short story How-2.” In 1975, the play's author, William Welch (best known for having written dozens of episodes of Irwin Allen’s 1960s TV series), made a brief mention of his experience with HOW TO MAKE A MAN in the forward to his book, Talks With The Dead: “In 1961 I had a play...
The Classic Horror Film Board-Lost 1950s Horror TV Pilot with Les Tremayne. What Is This? Ed Wood?
This is one of the most interesting and mysterious films that I have found. It's a horror/haunted house TV show that I can't find any information about whatsoever. The only actor that I have been able to identify is Les Tremayne. And the only credit in the show is at the beginning and all it says is CPI-TV. I believe it is some type of pilot and judging by it's use of stock footage and the sound of the dialogue I believe Ed Wood MAY have had something to do with it.

The Classic Horror Film Board-THE ASTOUNDING SHE-MONSTER (1957)
Jan 26, 2024#1242024-01-26T04:34+00:00 Every film print I have seen listed or viewed (television, film fests, VHS, DVD, online streaming, etc.) is derived from worn 16mm. Even the UCLA Film Archives holdings are 16mm. The Wade Williams Collection prints for his VHS and DVD releases are also 16mm. Which would have me believe it was filmed in that format. The Classic Horror Film Board-DR. BLACK, MR. HYDE (1976)
I always thought this film had some nice action sequences and some funny dialogue -- "Brother man, this situation is rapidly becoming insalubrious -- meaning, we're about to stomp a mudhole in your a**!" But it's not nearly as lively as Blacula. It does have a great trailer, though, which is on that Something Weird blaxploitation comp, "Afros, Macks and Zodiacs." I have an interview with director William Crain coming up in the fall issue of FilmFax, if anyone is interested.
The Classic Horror Film Board-LIANE, JUNGLE GODDESS (1956)
LIANE, JUNGLE GODDESS (1956) This was a pleasant surprise. I didn't expect anything except some cheap thrills, stock footage and bad dubbing, but LIANE is actually a rather sweet little comedy-drama in the vein of GIDGET or TAMMY AND THE BACHELOR. No, seriously. In the first twenty minutes, we see a German scientific expedition discover a young blonde girl living as "queen" of an African tribe. (Actually, they treat her more like a spoiled princess they dote on).
