Either you kill the comfort zone or the comfort zone kills you.
Either you kill the comfort zone or the comfort zone kills you. let’s look at this; I’ve heard it said, that the comfort zone is where dreams go to die; and certainly it does represent, in my opinion, stagnation. And let’s face it, most of our depression and low moods could just simply be that we’re in a stagnation of a routine. And so, therefore, it’s time to change. But it’s not just about moving furniture around and doing things differently.
Question for those who have knowledge of synchronisation of numbers.
Question for those who have knowledge of synchronisation of numbers. One of the most confusing of the synchronised numbers is 666. Why? Because it’s seen both as good and as evil in the West, depending on whose opinion you read. My question to the Medium Community is not whether it is good or evil, but rather why ‘is’ there this conflict. There is a chance that it’s good power was demonised to prevent some from attaining to whatever prosperity it might bring.
Long read: the pleasure of canoeing in the off-season
It is late September and the day is achingly beautiful. The sun is rising, the mist lifting. The wind is down and in my canoe I slide north along the shore. I have no destination except eternity. At this hour and this time I am the only boat on the lake, but not the only life. A kingfisher rattles out of the back channel behind the island on which I live.
Have you ever had a medical emergency while alone at the lake?
In episode 5 of the Cottage Life Podcast Season 3, we’ll listen to an essay about dealing with a medical emergency when you are alone at the lake, which first appeared in our June 1998 issue. Listen here or visit cottagelife.com for access to all of the episodes. It was 1:30 in the morning of August 13 and I was alone and awake at the cottage. A thunderstorm was tailing off, soft lighting glimmering on the lake, the wind fading, rain easing. I was alone, awake, and ill.
The ultimate cottage tool: the Swiss Army knife
I follow a ritual whenever I go out: I pat my pockets. One pat for my wallet, one for my keys, and my right pants pocket for my Swiss Army knife. I couldn’t leave the cottage without it because there’s often a rope to cut or a screw to tighten when you are far from the shed. It’s portable, uncomplicated, and multi-purpose, an ideal cottage tool. Indeed, there are probably more Swiss Army knives at cottages than there are in the Swiss Army. We have been through so much together, my knife and I.
Your View: Dispelling rumors about New York City and the Lehigh River
Before Thursday’s public meeting in White Haven, Luzerne County, I thought it would be helpful to dispel some rumors about New York City’s involvement in an upcoming study of the Francis E. Walter Reservoir. Over the past 10 days, some local news reports have said New York City wants to purchase storage in reservoir, draw drinking water from it, take control of its operations and end the water releases that support recreation, tourism and the local economy. None of this is accurate.
Making tracks in Coromandel town
Look east from the City of Sails over the sparkling Hauraki Gulf and you’ll glimpse Auckland’s best-loved holiday destination, the Coromandel Peninsula. The long, humped, misty blue line of the Coromandel Range may seem unprepossessing at a distance, but to many outdoor lovers it signifies red-letter days in the sun, coastal views to die for and balmy evenings around the barbecue.

Walking in Paradise
The beautiful frontier town of Glenorchy sits in the shadow of Mt Earnslaw and is an ideal base for wilderness walks. John Travolta famously said of Glenorchy, ‘The views are literally breathtaking, this is where God lives.’ It’s also where Lord of the Rings fans can gleefully rediscover the elfin forest of Lothlorien, the golden tussock heights of Isengard, the peak on which Gandalf slew the Balrog and Mt Earnslaw’s snow-capped summit known as Methedras.
