Structure and Functions of NDR1/HIN1‐Like (NHL) Proteins in Plant Development and Response to Environmental Stresses
1 Introduction Climate change is a serious, ongoing global issue that causes a significant impact on numerous aspects of the environment, including plant health. With the increasing rate of climate change, the frequency and intensity of drought events are expected to increase, leading to negative consequences for our crops. Also, the ‘plant disease triangle’ concept introduced by Russell B.

Safety and efficacy of anterior vertebral body tethering in the treatment of idiopathic scoliosis
Introduction Modification of anterior spinal growth is becoming increasingly adopted as a form of treatment for patients with idiopathic scoliosis, given the reported long-term concerns of spinal fusion.1–11 Anterior vertebral body tethering (AVBT) may be used in an attempt to correct the deformity and prevent progression of the curve by exploiting the Heuter-Volkman principle,12 and has been shown to be efficacious in experimental studies.13–21 To date, however, little has been published...
A Biodynamic Garden
Growing or maintaining a garden in a modern context can be a little self-defeating for those of us who seek more conscious living. For example, when we are mechanically levelling a monoculture of grass every weekend, or when it is a battle. When we are taking on the weeds, the slugs or the aphids with an arsenal of chemicals, & thereby losing the bees, butterflies & birdsong.
My Ayurveda|Paul
Blog, Embody, Nourish, Spirituals My wife’s friend, Jasmine Hemsley, interviewed me for her website recently. The interview is below too, and I hope you find some kernels of inspiration in it – to help weave wonder and feed goodness into your busiest days (just as I do, at home, running around with my daughters). With kindness, Paul x What does Ayurveda mean to you? Ayurveda is an ancient system of self-healing but is hugely relevant to us today and deeply rich in knowledge & scope.
Ayurveda & Raw Food
Nourish Within Ayurveda, cooking is held as better for unlocking the properties of our food, thereby making it easier to digest. However, those fresh shoots of spring & summer, eaten in as natural a state as possible are great providers of prana; our life force & vital energy. Too much raw, on the other hand, raises vata; those airy, ethereal elements of body & mind which can see us imbalanced & depleted.

The Balance Plan - OUR DAILY BREAD
We love the glow of the oven and the daily sourdough that warms and scents the little kitchen of the little cottage; the humble luxury and honesty of real bread. We love too the difference we feel since we subbed out store-bought for authentically home-baked; the relative levity and improved gut-health afforded us by the pet sourdough starter we keep in the fridge and lovingly feed with organic flour and filtered water.
Walking Meditation
Our motion, a walk, can so often feel like simply a void between where we have been & where we are going. A walk can mirror our mind in this way. When our thoughts are of things that have passed & the things to come we are never here. Since neither the past or the future exist, the one gone the other not yet here, perhaps it is time we devoted our attention to what is actual. It is in this way, spending time in the present, that we can start to be.
Mealtime Meditation
How we eat can be as important as what we eat. Engaging consciously with our food, preparing and eating mindfully can be a powerful aid to our digestion and to our relationship with that which supports us. This begins in the growing, sourcing or the choosing of local and seasonal ingredients. Our thought, intention and even the idea of the meal we will make begins the process of digestion.
In Praise of Frugality
I have never liked the idea of eating like royalty. It comes with images of bloated, gout ridden, syphilitic Tudor kings, Marie Antoinette or dignitaries gnawing on an animal leg; a stiff, pompous arrangement of people and cutlery, crystal and bone china; roasted swan. All in my own mind, of course, but I suppose it is that I am as uncomfortable with opulence as I am with formality. I believe that both of these things draw us subtly away from true pleasure, from honesty and from our true selves.
The Balance Plan - Ode to Spice
This is the first instalment from Food Editor, Paul Rushton, on the power and magic of spice. I love ‘process’. Soothing rituals and pacifying practices – the day’s seamless security blankets.
A Week in Babyfood
I wonder how many people have been put off particular dishes or ingredients by unsavoury culinary experiences during childhood; fruits and vegetables not treated well or forced on us; out of season or under-ripe, lacking in flavour or unappetisingly presented.
On Travel & Place
There is a sense sometimes that, for a growing number of people, travel is becoming a necessity & a life choice. It is all over our public forums & aspirational social postings. Each new place, each far-flung vista, is a step on their road to enlightenment; a page in their book of life. Travel can inform immeasurably, and expose us to views, feelings, ghosts & scents of huge impact and influence.
