Interview

How is social media changing news?

Social media allows for new conversations to take place, helps journalists explore new beats, and opens ground for further accountability.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Andrea Sachs from The Devil Wears Prada, she showed the world how we can adapt to different circumstance, no matter how unfamiliar they seem.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means to tell stories that allow readers to be informed responsibly, make well-thought choices on pressing matters, and live fairly.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

#ConfirmenaLarry, it's quite an inside joke.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I am oddly a person who loves to speak with others through a phone call. Call me, let's chat and see if a new story unfolds.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter, it's just quick, easy, diverse, and innovative.

Who do you wish followed you?

Donatella Versace.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Be informed, be honest, and always try your best to be on the right side of history.

What's your favorite drink?

I love a Piña Colada, more than being a native drink of Puerto Rico, it's a beverage with plenty of dimensions.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

I would be playing with makeup, skincare, and fragrances. Sometimes, I would be playing video games.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Due to my short attention span, I rely more on podcasts, so I listen to El Pocillo's Colándose and En Que Quedó.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

Fashion being superficial. Like other cultural activities, fashion is political. It requires knowledge, research, and sensibility.
