South Africa's sewage plants fail Green Drop test at scale
Nearly half of South Africa’s municipal wastewater treatment systems are in a critical state of performance, according to the department of water and sanitation’s latest Green Drop assessment, and the machinery meant to turn that around is showing the strain. South Africans were no longer willing to accept a cycle of plans without progress or diagnoses without delivery. The indaba brought together all spheres of government, water entities, business, labour, civil society and sector partners for a decisive shift in how we approach water and sanitation. It was meant to be a turning point. And it must remain one.

South Africans were no longer willing to accept a cycle of plans without progress or diagnoses without delivery. The indaba brought together all spheres of government, water entities, business, labour, civil society and sector partners, not for another conversation, but for a decisive shift in how we approach water and sanitation. It was meant to be a turning point.
Waster is life and corruption steals it from the poor
Cape Times | March 23, 2026 WHEN corruption infiltrates the water sector, it does far more than distort procurement processes or inflate invoices. It dries up taps, delays critical infrastructure projects, contaminates rivers, and steadily erodes public trust. In a water-scarce country like South Africa, corruption is not a victimless crime. It represents a direct assault on human dignity and national development.

Rediscovering Ubuntu In the Rainbow Nation, By Abdul Tejan-Cole
Unscrupulous politicians must stop blaming foreign nationals for crime, unemployment and a range of other social ills. A migrant population that is estimated at 2.2 million, less than 4 per cent of the entire population of 56.72 million, is not the reason why the unemployment rate has risen to 29 per cent. “12 died and 639 arrested following xenophobic violence” – the September 9th headline of the online edition of South Africa’s weekly City Press newspaper.
