Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

I wrote a column for Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Magazine. The first installment made the cover, which hangs in my office.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes! In high school and college. I wrote my senior college thesis using a new-fangled word processer. I was thrilled!

How is social media changing news?

Sadly, the days of trusting the NEWS to provide facts are behind us. We need a new approach for categorizing information.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

A journalist is a truth-teller with an ethical responsibility to provide accurate, meaningful information that improves decision-making and public understanding.

What's your favorite social network?

LinkedIn

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I didn't, but I wish I had.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Search for the intersection of what inspires you and what readers actually want or need to know.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Anytime is fine!

What's your favorite drink?

Old Fashioned

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

On my sofa reading, list making, reaching topics, or binge watching.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

The New Yorker and Vanity Fair

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

The public has no idea how the pharmaceutical industry works. Sadly, many who work in the industry, at all levels, don't know either.
