Nationwide trends in the use of ADHD medications in the period 2006–2022: a study from the Norwegian prescription database - BMC Psychiatry

Both the prevalence and incidence of ADHD medication use among Norwegians aged 6 to 64 years increased fourfold from 2006 to 2022, primarily due to a relative increase in females and adults. Consequently, the male-to-female prevalence ratio decreased in the period and was close to 1 in 2022. This trend must be considered in the context of incident use among adolescent and young adult females, which exceeded and was higher than in males at the end of the study period.

First, we found that receiving a diagnosis of autism in childhood significantly predicted poorer PQoL in emerging adulthood. This is also in line with previous findings of the relationship between autism and subjective QoL [8, 13, 14, 16] and contrast to findings from two other studies reporting no relationship between autism and poor QoL [24] and [19]. One possible reason for divergent findings is the use of different measures when assessing QoL in people with autism.
