Human–Bird Interactions Through Time: Proceedings of the 11th ICAZ Bird Working Group Meeting
1 Overview of the Papers in This Volume Bird remains have often been seen as a niche field in zooarchaeological research overshadowed by the study of mammals despite their considerable cultural, symbolic and economic significance as well as their potential as a proxy for environmental reconstruction.
Transport of animals underpinned ritual feasting at the onset of the Neolithic in southwestern Asia - Communications Earth & Environment
Abstract Feasting played an important role in cementing social bonds between prehistoric communities. At Early Neolithic Asiab, western Iran, ceremonial feasting is evidenced by the butchered skulls of nineteen wild boars (Sus scrofa), an animal that was not commonly hunted in the region at the time. Here we use microscopic dental growth patterns to guide geochemical analyses of five wild boar teeth from Asiab and examine the geographical scope from which the animals derived.

100 ancient genomes show repeated population turnovers in Neolithic Denmark - Nature

Abstract Major migration events in Holocene Eurasia have been characterized genetically at broad regional scales1,2,3,4. However, insights into the population dynamics in the contact zones are hampered by a lack of ancient genomic data sampled at high spatiotemporal resolution5,6,7.
