Conservation Genomics for Threatened New Zealand Gentianella calcis (Gentianaceae) and Implications for Vulnerable Limestone Ecosystems
1 Introduction Naturally insular specialist ecosystems represent important components of terrestrial plant biodiversity. They may support relict populations with unique diversity (Greimler and Dobeš 2000; Vogler and Reisch 2013) or hold the last remnants of native vegetation (de Vieira et al. 2015). Safeguarding these ecosystems is therefore important for preserving terrestrial biodiversity.

Ecosourcing for resilience in a changing environment
ABSTRACT ABSTRACT Ecosourcing seed of ‘local genetic stock’ for ecological restoration has been practiced in New Zealand for about 50 years. However, we believe that it has become unnecessarily restrictive. Ecosourcing ensures plants used for restoration are adapted to local conditions and maintains current distributional patterns. It also restricts genetic diversity, confines species to their historic range, and reduces the conservation options for threatened species.
Plastid DNA sequence data of the extinct Logania depressa (Loganiaceae) from New Zealand confirm its generic placement
ABSTRACT The generic placement of the enigmatic and extinct Logania depressa from New Zealand has been uncertain due to the paucity of available plant material. This diminutive plant has only been collected once from the central North Island, New Zealand, by William Colenso on 22 February 1847. Logania depressa is dioecious and the single collection comprises only male flowers and does not include female flowers or fruit that feature generic diagnostic characters.
Key to the weed species of New Zealand
A key for the identification of weeds in New Zealand. This Lucid 3 key is for the identification of more than 650 weeds (species, subspecies, varieties, hybrids and cultivars). These include common weeds, the Department of Conservation consolidated list of environmental weeds in New Zealand (Howell, 2008), the National Pest Plant Accord (NPPA) list of species banned from sale, distribution, and propagation in New Zealand, and Regional Pest Management Plan (RPMP) species.
