What was your first job as a journalist?
Freelancing with Examiner.com.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes. Typing was a required skill to learn in high school, and we used manual and electric typewriters with blank keys to do so.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
No preference. Reach out and touch me - there are many ways to do it and I've listed many of them here.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter. What better resource to follow people who'll help you find what you're looking for and unfollow them when they can't anymore.
Who do you wish followed you?
Ken Dryden, former Montreal Canadiens goaltender, Stanley Cup champion, hockey executive, author, lawyer, politician.
Why did you become a journalist?
I'm a storyteller. There are many details in life that need to be shared with a viewpoint that no one would know about unless I write it.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Championships are always fulfilling to write about - Duke Football (Coastal Division), Duke Lacrosse (2 NCAA), UNC Lacrosse (NCAA) stand out.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Respect the profession while leading and going to places others don't. Do what others are not willing to do. Create new paths to the source.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Anytime. Always willing to listen and talk.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
With as many pro/college teams there are in the Triangle, and with the number of media outlets that exist, they're not covered well enough.
