Should I stay or should I go with them?
Abstract Foraging—the seeking, detecting, and acquiring of resources, typically food—is one of the most common and important behaviors of mobile organisms, which have consequently evolved to be very good at it. The exploration-exploitation trade-off describes a fundamental tension in foraging behavior between looking for new locations where resources may be discovered versus harvesting resources from a location where they have already been found, but this characterization is incomplete.
British man sues local authorities to dig up dumpster and find lost bitcoin drive
James Howells, a British citizen, is suing the local council in an attempt to get back a hard drive that he claims contains 8,000 bitcoins (BTC). The value of the drive is currently estimated at about $647 million. This was reported by Vice. In 2013, Howells’ then-partner mistakenly threw away a hard drive with a pile of other garbage. At that time, bitcoin was already worth just under £1 million, and its value has only increased since then.
FBI creates its own NexFundAI token to track down cryptocurrency fraudsters
The FBI created its own cryptocurrency to monitor how fraud suspects use it. The idea really worked and led to arrests in several countries. This was reported by The Register. The token in question is NexFundAI, which was created on the basis of Ethereum.
A demo of the Ukrainian visual novel Shine On, My Little Sun has been released
The Ukrainian visual novel Shine On, My Little Sun by Forpixie Studio and publisher TERNOX has received a demo version on Steam. “When the Sun fell, darkness covered the world. In the snowy wasteland, the town of Svargo thrived under its faint light. But the Sun did not go out. The small Sun sleeps atop a grim lighthouse. What happens when the Sun awakens?” says the game’s backstory. The Shine On, My Little Sun demo has about 30-40 minutes of gameplay, which is about a fifth of the full visual novel.
Ukrainian subway horror Metrophobia is now on Steam
The Ukrainian studio Fang’s Lab, which is already working on the hidden alien search game I Want to Believe, has opened a Steam page and presented a trailer for another project – the horror game Metrophobia, which takes place in an abandoned subway, where the station repeats itself in a loop, filled with anomalies and hidden horrors. “You find yourself trapped in an eerie and seemingly abandoned metro station.
Native functions of short tandem repeats
Native functions of STRs from an evolutionary perspective Evolutionary pressures on STR copy number predict that repeat expansions will be either tolerated or selected for until an upper, deleterious limit is reached. If STRs were intrinsically deleterious, then there would be selective pressure towards repeat contractions, leading to global reductions in STR size or their selective elimination.
An incomplete guide to stealth addresses
An incomplete guide to stealth addresses 2023 Jan 20 See all posts An incomplete guide to stealth addresses Special thanks to Ben DiFrancesco, Matt Solomon, Toni Wahrst├Ątter and Antonio Sanso for feedback and review One of the largest remaining challenges in the Ethereum ecosystem is privacy. By default, anything that goes onto a public blockchain is public. Increasingly, this means not just money and financial transactions, but also ENS names, POAPs, NFTs, soulbound tokens, and much more.

A native function for RAN translation and CGG repeats in regulating fragile X protein synthesis
Abstract Repeat-associated non-AUG-initiated translation of expanded CGG repeats (CGG RAN) from the FMR1 5′-leader produces toxic proteins that contribute to neurodegeneration in fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome. Here we describe how unexpanded CGG repeats and their translation play conserved roles in regulating fragile X protein (FMRP) synthesis. In neurons, CGG RAN acts as an inhibitory upstream open reading frame to suppress basal FMRP production.
