The joy of fostering
Send us a text We've all been told the story of the first Thanksgiving - but what actually happened? As with much of colonial American history, the real story is much darker. In Maryann Rosen's annual retelling of the story, she dives into the facts, giving us a true recounting of what colonial and indigenous relationships were like when pilgrims first began colonizing New England. Listen today, and keep these stories in mind while you celebrate and give thanks with your families this week.
The perils of an unkept chimney
PEAK TO PEAK - It’s that time of year again. The air is crisper, the nights are colder, and all you want to do is sit by the fireplace with a warm drink looking out at an early snowfall. But as with all things, your chimney requires proper maintenance in order for it to work efficiently and safely. A chimney works through a process called convection. This process creates a pressure change when the warm air from the fire rises and causes a draft.
Get brushing - It’s Dental Hygiene Month! - The Mountain-Ear
PEAK TO PEAK - It is safe to say that most of us have been told to brush our teeth twice a day–once in the morning and once at night. We have also been told to floss whenever we can, after every meal is ideal, but at least once at night. While it’s true that all those things help clean and protect our teeth, some people may still get cavities, even if they are doing all the right things. So why does that happen? The answer could be a lot of things.

Loquations sing at Carnegie Hall
The day was Friday, March 22, 2024, when eleven students, seven chaperones, two siblings, and Nederland Middle-Senior music teacher Liz Evans boarded a flight from Denver to New York City. The Loquations had been practicing a specific set of songs for months in school and at weekly meetings at CU Boulder. For what, you might ask? For the experience of a lifetime. We set sail (or rather boarded a plane) and we were off to see the Big Apple.

Send NMSHS choir to Carnegie Hall
This year’s Nederland High School Loquations are going to Carnegie Hall in March of 2024! They are all very grateful and excited for this once in four years opportunity. There will be a total of 11 students, a few chaperones, and of course Ms. Evans. With this great opportunity come a lot of expenses, like the plane tickets and the three-night stay at the hotel. This is why they need your help to raise money to make the expenses a little less daunting.

Browning evergreens across Peak to Peak
Have you ever been driving down Boulder Canyon, seeing a pine tree with brown needles, and thinking “I thought those were supposed to stay green all year long. What’s up with that?” Although these trees are evergreens, sometimes they don’t get enough water. During the summertime when the sun’s hot and drying out everything it touches, these trees will try […]
Student athletes: A personal perspective
By | on August 17, 2023 Polina Savich Peak to Peak Although there are many seasonal sports to choose from at Ned High, a small town like Nederland may not provide the sport that’s meant for you. This is why many people end up finding their sport elsewhere. Whether it be a club soccer team in Boulder or a hockey team in Denver, many dedicate their time and energy not only […]
Hawley Mercantile offers unique mountain gifts
By MtnEarStaff | on June 30, 2023 Polina Savich Central City Hawley Mercantile is a “small” shop in Central City. To be fair it’s not small at all. It’s the largest store in Central City, boasting four floors to browse through. You will definitely be able to find something you just can’t leave without. The owners, Chris Gress and Omar Garcia, really put in the work to show their love for antiques as the store is full of them.
