Pooneh is an experienced media professional working in business development, media partnerships, and international media strategy.
With 32 years of experience in journalism, presenting, and editing, Pooneh now oversees Global Partnerships between the BBC World Service and external funders such as philanthropic, commercial, and educational organisations. She manages a portfolio of nearly 5 million USD funding secured to design and deliver educational content, helping the BBC increase its reach and revenue and enhance its reputation globally. Pooneh is well-known internationally as one of the BBC’s select group of multilingual presenters. She is also an experienced senior media trainer, having designed and delivered training for journalists in editorial and legal guidelines, social media and UGC content verification, presentation and production skills and techniques, and editorial leadership. She frequently speaks at international conferences, university events, and chairs panels, awards, town-hall events, and think tank seminars.
Pooneh Ghoddoosi joined the BBC in 2000 and is one of the BBC’s select group of multilingual presenters. She presented BBC Persian’s award winning Interactive programme, "Nobat-e Shoma" (Your Turn), and has appeared as a guest presenter on BBC World Service Radio’s "World Have Your Say", and “The Fifth Floor”.
In 2009-2010, Pooneh managed a project on the effective use of social media and user-generated content in BBC Global News. The project led to new editorial guidelines for social media, which are currently being used across BBC Global News.
Pooneh started out as a fixer in 1990 for the New York Times and has since worked for a number of international media outlets including the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Daily Telegraph, the Financial Times, Boston Globe, and PBS.
