Prantik Ali

I am an independent writer and researcher based in India, working at the intersection of media, politics, and contemporary culture. My work examines how power circulates through digital ecosystems and popular narratives, with a focus on misinformation, spectacle, and identity politics in South Asia.

I have a background in English Literature, having completed my Bachelor's Degree at Presidency University, Kolkata, and my Master's at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. My academic interests include minority literatures, surveillance cultures, and the construction of otherness across literature and media. Alongside this, I am developing long-form journalistic projects that explore how ideological movements use religion, media, and street-level mobilisation to normalise exclusionary politics.

Since 2023, I have worked as a fact-checking intern with Alt News, gaining experience tracking political misinformation, analysing viral content, and documenting patterns of digital manipulation and algorithmic amplification.

My writing blends reportage with critical analysis, tracing how events on the ground intersect with larger structures of power. Recent projects include investigations into performative television journalism in West Bengal and research-driven pieces on religious rallies, coded incitement, and the role of spiritual leaders in advancing Hindutva ideology. I am particularly interested in how cultural forms such as sports, pilgrimage, and popular media become tools of political discipline.

I also write on literature, film, and music, approaching cultural texts as archives of contemporary anxiety and resistance.

I am open to long-form reporting, media criticism, and research collaborations on digital politics, communal mobilisation, and contemporary Indian culture.
