India’s legalisation of gay sex is India’s success, not the West’s

Uni welcomes calls for ‘urgent action’ on mental health services
Oxford has welcomed a Universities UK (UUK) report calling for “urgent action” to improve the coordination of universities and the NHS in regards to mental health services. According to the report, between 2016 and 2018 the number of under-graduates disclosing a mental health condition across the country rose from 39,275 to 49,265, while the rise was from 5,625 to 8,040 among graduate students. Many students felt “failed” by their university’s insufficient mental health resources.

The SU voted to subsidise Irish students’ travel home to the Republic of Ireland to vote in the upcoming referendum Oxford SU has passed a motion to subsidise Irish students’ travel home to the Republic of Ireland to vote in the upcoming abortion referendum. The referendum, which is taking place on 25th May, will decide whether or not the government should repeal the 8th Amendment to the country’s constitution, which effectively bans abortion.
Proposal to build cable car network in Oxford
The proposed gondola lifts would be the seventh passenger cable car network in the UK Environmental groups are calling on Oxford City Council to introduce a network of gondola lifts, with the potential to carry up to 4000 people an hour. The proposal comes amid growing concerns over traffic levels in the centre of the city, with Oxford City Council today announcing a new campaign aiming to educate people about air pollution and promoting clean travel behaviours.
Jorja Smith review - euphoric, intense and soulful
“This one is basically about how crap the government is,” Jorja announces to the audience, before launching into her song ‘Lifeboats’. She stands tall and proud on the stage, as the crowd chants her lyrics back at her. Having been mesmerised by the gigantic stage presence of her supporting act, Mahalia Burkmar, I was surprised by how stripped back and minimal Jorja’s choreography and interaction with the audience was during the first half of the set.
Night Out: Dangerous dancing and drag queens
Going out to Plush before the start of term is always cracked up to be a weird night. No one you know is around, the vibes are pretty much non-existent and the clubs are full of forty year old men trying to relive the ‘good old days’. Add to this the fact that it was a Wednesday, and you can see why I wasn’t anticipating a good night. Regardless, my housemate and I tried to hype each other up over predrinks, insisting that going out before term starts would be liberating.
Unfair and Lovely: Exploring the World of Skin Lightening
Most girls have fond memories of sneaking into their parents’ room, aged 6 or 7, to play with their mother’s makeup. You could barely reach the dressing table, but once you’d climbed onto a stack of books, you just about managed to reach her fancy red lipstick. You inspected your new plaything: a symbol of beauty even within its packaging, you took time to feel the smooth, metallic bullet between your shaky fingertips.
Life Divided: Do you miss Oxford during the vac?
Ah, Oxford – a cruel mistress if ever there was one. During term time it torments me with deadlines, FOMO and existential dread, but once I’ve withdrawn from the academic prison I’m left eagerly awaiting my return. The first week of vac is usually when the worry sets in. Why does no one around me know what an Oxfess is? How am I meant to survive the next few weeks without the culinary delights of Hussain’s?
The insincerity of the female nude
John Berger once wrote: “To be naked is to be oneself. To be nude is to be seen naked by others and yet not recognised for oneself.” These are the words which ring in my ears as I stroll through the halls of an art gallery, confronted by a never-ending stream of breasts, lips, cheeks, and hair – these are faces without stories, mouths without voices, smiles without substance. As a woman, you become accustomed to seeing your own image re?ected wherever you look, in a glamourised, beautified format.
The All Souls scholarship shows progress, but is a token gesture
It’s hard to forget that the buildings in which you stand were built off the backs of racial subjugations and slavery. The endless portraits of white meant that occupy our colleges further emphasise that most blatant point – Oxford wasn’t made for people like me.
Life Divided: The Rad Cam
The Rad Cam. It is, to all intents and purposes, a symbol of the rich history of a university that we are more than privileged to attend. Furthermore, it’s absolutely ace Instagram fod- der if you catch a pretty sunset. But it’s a gimmick – beyond the neo-classical façade it is literally the most unpleasant place to work, and yet it always seems to gain prestige and favour over far better libraries (#justicefortheWeston). The voyage to getting a work spot in the first place is burdensome.
How to maintain dominance in the library
Any outsider might think that Oxford students would be professionals in the library: wandering through the dusty shelves, in their element, diligently getting their heads down to produce yet another thought-provoking tutorial essay. But I’m sorry to tell you – this is entirely untrue. Getting through life in the Oxford libraries is an art, and I’m here to show you just how it’s done.
