The rise and fall of language diversity through the Holocene
Editor’s summary Abstract Supplementary Materials References and Notes Information & Authors Metrics & Citations Check Access References Figures Tables Media Share Editor’s summary More than four languages are lost every year, and this rate is predicted to increase. Blasi et al. investigated how language diversity has changed over the Holocene using a Bayesian modeling approach, ethnographic data, and estimates of the total human population size over time.
The Future of the HIV Response: Sustaining Progress in an era of Political Uncertainty and Scientific Opportunity
1 Introduction More than forty years after the identification of HIV, the global response stands at a moment of both extraordinary promise and profound uncertainty. Scientific advances have transformed HIV from a fatal diagnosis into a manageable chronic condition and have introduced highly effective prevention strategies capable of dramatically reducing new infections. Yet, the infrastructure required to translate these advances into population-level impact is increasingly fragile.

Improving hip fracture rehabilitation against CSP standards using an integrated physiotherapy and occupational therapy team approach
Purpose: The 2017 RCP HipSprint audit showed a wide variation in provision of rehabilitation across the country and the CSP published Hip Fracture Rehabilitation Standards in 2018. Our baseline HipSprint audit identified we were delivering significantly less than the recommended 2 h rehabilitation per week.
Multiplexed single-cell proteomics using SCoPE2 - Nature Protocols
Abstract Many biological systems are composed of diverse single cells. This diversity necessitates functional and molecular single-cell analysis. Single-cell protein analysis has long relied on affinity reagents, but emerging mass-spectrometry methods (either label-free or multiplexed) have enabled quantifying >1,000 proteins per cell while simultaneously increasing the specificity of protein quantification.
Gene expression signatures for tailoring adjuvant chemotherapy of luminal breast cancer: stronger evidence, greater trust
Earlier diagnosis through screening mammography, improved loco-regional treatment modalities and a broader use of effective adjuvant systemic therapies in the form of chemotherapy and/or targeted therapies have all contributed to a significant decline in breast cancer (BC) mortality in the Western world. , 2 EBCTCG: Effects of chemotherapy and hormonal therapy for early breast cancer on recurrence and 15 year survival: an overview of the randomized trials.
Single-cell proteomic and transcriptomic analysis of macrophage heterogeneity using SCoPE2 - Genome Biology
Genome Biology volume 22, Article number: 50 (2021) Cite this article 9299 Accesses 26 Citations 76 Altmetric Metrics details Abstract Background Macrophages are innate immune cells with diverse functional and molecular phenotypes. This diversity is largely unexplored at the level of single-cell proteomes because of the limitations of quantitative single-cell protein analysis.

Port Adelaide undone in the wet at home by Western Bulldogs
Camera IconCaleb Daniel grabs Steven Motlop in the torrid conditions.Picture: News Corp Australia, Sarah Reed It is said if you expect nothing of someone you are never disappointed, but Port Adelaide did its talent a disservice in defeat to the Western Bulldogs. Luke Beveridge’s men won’t play finals and Port might be watching on again in 2019 as the AFL’s big tease in a 25-point loss.

It is said if you expect nothing of someone you are never disappointed, but Port Adelaide did its talent a disservice in defeat to the Western Bulldogs. Luke Beveridge’s men won’t play finals and Port might be watching on again in 2019 as the AFL’s big tease in a 25-point loss. Port this week linked its inconsistency to a tight competition, but noted its super-charged win against Geelong would mean nothing without victory against the 15th ranked Bulldogs.
Publisher Correction: Mental template matching is a potential cultural transmission mechanism for New Caledonian crow tool manufacturing traditions
Correction to: Scientific Reports https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-018-27405-1, published online 28 June 2018 Supplementary files containing the Supplementary Dataset containing supporting data and Supplementary Video containing illustrative footage were omitted from the original version of this Article. This has been corrected in the HTML version of the Article; the PDF version was correct at time of publication. Author information Author notes A. H. Taylor and R. D. Gray contributed equally.
A systematic review of the effects of novel psychoactive substances ‘legal highs’ on people with severe mental illness
Novel psychoactive substances (NPS) are synthetic substances that have been developed to produce altered states of consciousness and perceptions. People with severe mental illness (SMI) are more likely to use NPS than people without mental illness, but the short‐ and long‐term effects of NPS are largely unknown. We systematically reviewed the literature about the effects of NPS on people with SMI. We included 12 case reports, 1 cross‐sectional survey and 1 qualitative study.
Mental template matching is a potential cultural transmission mechanism for New Caledonian crow tool manufacturing traditions
Our results provide the first evidence to suggest that New Caledonian crows have the cognitive capacity to manufacture objects from a mental template. The New Caledonian crows tested here manufactured items that matched the relative size of the previously rewarded templates, without being rewarded for doing so during manufacture test trials and without templates being present at the time of manufacture.
Near-100 MeV protons via a laser-driven transparency-enhanced hybrid acceleration scheme
Figure 1a, b shows the experiment set-up (discussed in the Methods section) and an example beam profile for proton energy (? )???89?MeV, respectively. The high proton energies detected using stacked dosimetry film (radiochromic film; RCF) were confirmed by measurement of proton-induced activation of Cu filters interspersed with the film.

Promoting openness and transparency in mental health nursing science
In this editorial, I want to discuss a number of initiatives that the Journal of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (JPMHN) editorial team has undertaken to promote openness and transparency in academic publishing. They include improving timelines, enforcing trial registration, mandating reporting guidelines, requiring conflict of interest declarations and introducing registered reports.
Transient brightening of Jupiter's aurora observed by the Hisaki satellite and Hubble Space Telescope during approach phase of the Juno spacecraft
In early 2014, continuous monitoring with the Hisaki satellite discovered transient auroral emission at Jupiter during a period when the solar wind was relatively quiet for a few days. Simultaneous imaging made by the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) suggested that the transient aurora is associated with a global magnetospheric disturbance that spans from the inner to outer magnetosphere.
