Alistair Fisher said he had 'funny looks' from people while spreading sand on the road Scotland has experienced its hottest day of the year, with temperatures peaking at 31.2C in Threave, Dumfries and Galloway. The sweltering conditions mean that Scotland is officially experiencing a heatwave - with 25C and above recorded for three consecutive days. By Rachel Grant | Part of our Next-Generation Neuroscience series Ocean-dwelling, otherworldly, and intelligent, the bobtail squid possesses a brain that is complex yet very different from our own. This squishy, walnut-sized creature is a cephalopod (a group that includes octopuses, squids and cuttlefish), the only invertebrate group that has evolved nervous systems and behaviors as complex as what we see in mammals and birds.
To determine spatial and temporal patterns of Mll1 expression in the mouse retina, we analyzed Mll1 transcript levels and distribution during development. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) assays with Mll1-specific “Primer Set 1” (Fig. 1A, Supplementary Table S1) showed that Mll1 expression was constant from Postnatal day 0 (P0) to P5, but significantly increased in the second postnatal week (Fig. 1B), the crucial period for terminal differentiation of retinal neurons.
