Experts: New Anti-Planned Parenthood Footage Still Doesn't Support Fiorina's Claims
After GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina misrepresented the content of a secretly-filmed anti-Planned Parenthood video -- falsely claiming it shows an aborted fetus on a table, still moving, as a voice urges prolonging its life for organ harvesting -- an anti-choice group released extended footage of the clip they say vindicates Fiorina's claim.
The Media Can’t Resist Powerful Liars
The media coverage of Donald Trump right up until he entered the White House should haunt everyone in journalism with a dark truth: The system can be gamed and there’s nothing reporters—or the entire field of journalism—can do about it. It’s obvious now that literally almost everything Trump says is a lie. If he says it’s sunny outside you’ll know before you look out the window, it’s raining. But that aspect of Trump only became fully evident once he moved into the White House.

Utah Bill Criminalizes Miscarriage
A bill passed by the Utah House and Senate this week and waiting for the governor’s signature, will make it a crime for a woman to have a miscarriage, and make induced abortion a crime in some instances. According Lynn M. Paltrow, executive director of National Advocates for Pregnant Women, what makes Utah’s proposed law unique is that it is specifically designed to be punitive toward pregnant women, not those who might assist or cause an illegal abortion or unintended miscarriage.

Deceptively-edited videos produced by the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) alleging that Planned Parenthood is illegally handling fetal tissue echo claims made 15 years ago by the anti-choice group Life Dynamics, which fell apart under scrutiny. CMP founder David Daleiden has cited a 2000 campaign by Life Dynamics and its leader , Mark Crutcher, as the inspiration behind his own group's smear campaign against Planned Parenthood.

How An Animated Comedy Showed The Big Problem With News Coverage About Abortion
The Netflix series BoJack Horseman recently released an episode in which a major character decides to get an abortion, serving as a rare example of a comedy show that both tackles the topic of abortion and explicitly addresses the social stigma surrounding the medical procedure, including how abortion conversations in media are dominated by anti-choice men.
Why Is Reuters Avoiding The Facts About The Smear Campaign Against Planned Parenthood?
A Reuters article on a recent Planned Parenthood legal victory in Utah gave equal weight to both discredited claims by Republican Utah Gov. Gary Herbert that Planned Parenthood had violated fetal tissue laws and the truth: Planned Parenthood Association of Utah had not violated the law. Last August, Republican Utah Gov.
Fox Affiliate Allows Guest To Say Abortions Could Contaminate The Water Supply
Within a week of the Supreme Court striking down Texas’ HB 2 bill for creating an “undue burden” on women seeking abortion, the state’s Health and Human Services Commission proposed new rules that would require that all fetal remains from abortions be cremated or buried. Such policies are a new tactic from anti-choice legislators, with Texas joining Indiana, Arkansas and Georgia in attempting to implement these types of requirements.
Right-Wing Media's Obsession With Planned Parenthood Is Thwarting Local Efforts To Reduce HIV Rates
Right-wing media have been adamant that Planned Parenthood should not receive any government funding, even for programs that have nothing to do with abortion. But withholding health care funds from Planned Parenthood is the medical equivalent of cutting off your nose to spite your face, as evidenced by the defunded local affiliates whose HIV prevention programs have become far less -- or completely -- ineffective.

Fox News Hyped Ohio AG’s False Claims About Planned Parenthood But Didn’t Report That They Cost The State Over $45,000
In December 2015, when Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine argued that fetuses from Planned Parenthood were “steam-cooked and taken to a Kentucky landfill,” Fox News covered his baseless allegations. In contrast, no Fox News show followed up to note that Ohio taxpayers would cover $45,447 in legal fees Planned Parenthood incurred while fighting the attorney general’s misleading claims about its practices.
Media Matters for America
Fox’s evening news programs routinely misinform viewers on reproductive rights issues, disproportionately relying on extreme anti-choice figures and deceptive smear campaigns to deliver their message, according to a new Media Matters study.
STUDY: How Cable News Talks About Abortion
A Media Matters study of 14 months of evening cable news programs found that discussions of abortion were weighted toward anti-choice speakers, which resulted in widespread misinformation on the topic. Of the three networks, Fox News aired the largest number of inaccurate statements about the most prevalent abortion-related myths, and MSNBC was the most accurate.
It Took A Deadly Attack For CNN To Make Time For Pro-Choice Advocates In Its Slanted Abortion Discussions
In 2015 and early 2016, CNN hosted more than twice as many anti-choice guests as pro-choice guests on its evening news programs, according to a new Media Matters study. CNN also didn’t host any reproductive rights advocates as guests until November’s fatal attack on a Colorado Springs, CO, Planned Parenthood health care center. Why Not Use the Term Pro-Abortion?
A few weeks ago MSNBC anchor Contessa Brewer used the phrase “pro-abortion” to describe a pro-choice viewpoint. It wasn’t meant to be derisive; she clearly just had a brain freeze. On twitter a reproductive rights activist said she “cringed” to hear Brewer’s slip. I asked, why? On the face of it what’s wrong with being “pro-abortion.” Reproductive rights activists, such as myself, believe that access to abortion is a positive medical service that is provided to women.
