I was an intern at NPR in Washington, D.C.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes! When I was a kid, we had a couple at home that my parents got from a school auction.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Katherine Plumber from Newsies -- she finds the truth, stands up to authority *and* she can tap dance.
What does it mean to be a journalist?

What tools and software do you use to do your job?
The windows I always have open: Tweetdeck, Photoshop, Evernote, Facebook, Reddit, Topsy, Dataminr, our in-house CMS and (of course) Spotify

Tumblr (people coming together based on shared passions) and Medium (gorgeous design for longer reads)
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I started as a staff writer and then moved up to news editor.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Write every day -- journal, blog, news story, fiction, doesn't matter. Just write.
