Why regular walking could be the best thing you do for your mind and body, says TV doctor
When was the last time you and your mind were completely at peace? I’ll take a guess and suggest that it might have been on a walk. The rest of the time, life barely gives us a moment to switch off. Even the ‘quiet times’ of going to bed or waking up are not immune; in fact they’re often when the noise rises loudest. Walking, though, is different.
Let’s Get Real About Health and Longevity
How can we live a happy, healthy, full, meaningful and long life? That’s the question that I have made my mission to answer, and to support others with it too. I am an NHS doctor with over 20 years' experience, who fell into the world of broadcasting and writing unintentionally. That shift occurred 15 years ago now, but I soon realised it was what my heart and soul has always been drawn to: understanding and sharing how to make progress in the face of challenge and difficulty.

The Gender Pain Gap: Why Women's Health Is Still Being Dismissed
'It's such a relief to be listened to and taken seriously.' To be on the receiving end of these words is a huge compliment, and yet it is one I wish I did not hear as much as I do as a GP. They were the sentiments of a patient in urgent care with abdominal pain, recently diagnosed with endometriosis by a specialist after many years of being passed around different medical specialties, dismissed, ignored or made to feel like she was being difficult.
The Case for 'Wasting' Your Time
Angelina Jolie once described spending an hour slowly moisturising her legs. Most people would call it wasting your time. It's easy to dismiss her lotion trance, but at its core, this sustained period of repetitive, low-stakes activity allows the mind to drift and the nervous system to settle. The novelist Kate Atkinson has spoken about how, at the start of a new project, she clears out drawers.
Do You Need a Therapist Now When You Have AI?
Earlier this week, my friend told me that Bobby, her beagle, got hit by a car and has a badly broken leg. I love Bobby. It's terrible. But I immediately got the giggles and couldn't stop. She was horrified. This isn't the first time it's happened. I'm worried I need help, but I don't have the time or money for it right now. What do I do? I ask Claude. Claude, I sometimes laugh when bad things happen, even if I find it sad. I can't seem to control it. Am I a sociopath?
Tess Daly's Golden Gap Year: Permission Granted
When Tess Daly announced she was ending her 22-year marriage, one intriguing detail lurked in the background of the ensuing coverage: Tess apparently wants to spend a year travelling the world. Alone. Buried beneath the dissection of a celebrity marriage and recycled photos of happier times, her gap year plans were a passing line.

The Gender Pain Gap: Why Women's Health Is Still Being Dismissed
Your pain is real. It always was. Women’s pain has been dismissed, minimised and misdiagnosed for decades. Now, with Wes Streeting acknowledging a “culture of medical misogyny” in the NHS and a new Women’s Health Strategy announced, something may finally be shifting. Here, Dr Radha Modgil, theALLBRIGHT’s Wellness Editor, explores why the gender health gap persists, and how the burden of fixing it must stop falling on women themselves.

In Conversation with Dr Radha Modgil
A few weeks back I had the privilege of talking to Radha Modgil, who is a GP, TV, radio and podcast broadcaster and author. We talked about her passion and energy for helping people with their mental health, as well as how the term ‘wellness’ has become full of layers of illusion – and how we need to peel the illusion back now and go back to the roots of the term, which is purely about being well.

How to Deal with Uncertainty and Find Inner Peace — HavingTime.com
We live in extremely challenging times both as individuals and as a global community dealing with uncertainty and fear for ourselves but also those we love. How do we deal with uncertainty? Is it even possible to find inner peace during these trying times? These are natural human emotions that we all feel when faced with something so new and so challenging, and it is right that these feelings are felt, processed, and spoken about.
Is the pandemic ruining our friendships?
The last eight months have turned our worlds upside down, physically, emotionally and mentally — but you know this already. Everyone has experienced a different version of the pandemic. I lost my father at the beginning of the first lockdown, weeks later, my best friend gave birth to her first child. Unexpectedly joyous micro weddings followed a painful funeral on Zoom. Furlough has ended in redundancy for one friend, while another received the biggest pay rise of her life.
