What was your first job as a journalist?

Covering the private sector-academia partnership conference on driving development in research.

Ages ago.

How is social media changing news?

It creates an opportunity for in-depth and day-after reporting, but while allowing greater public mobilisation exposing official narratives.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Don't know any.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means you're on a mission to speak the truth, expose lies, explain the unknown, take sides and stop the world from falling asleep.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

I dont really recall.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Economy with a twist of society and a dash of politics.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Phone, iPad and recorder, notebook and computer.

What's your favorite social network?

Maybe Facebook? But I'm all too new to social media interaction.

Robert Fisk, among others.

Why did you become a journalist?

Journalism is one way to uncover the truth and share it, all the while enabling me to partake in the shaping of my reality.

Columns.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Several, including the Microfinance Paradox (1 and 2), the Shadow Economy and the Railway Project.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

A round-table approach is the best approach. Look for the angle, do not settle and give voice where reason stands.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Meeting people in the streets, public square, at a bar, a public library or at home.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Robert Frost's and Mahmoud Al Abed's, among othera, including George Bernard Shaw's and Bertrand Russel's.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That its limited to economy and depoliticised.
