Rahul Basharat

My name is Rahul Basharat, a graduate in journalism and mass communication and a mid-career working journalist. My professional career is expanded to above five years experience, which caters working in print, electronic and digital media. I am working as staff correspondent of daily The Nation Islamabad since 2016, and before switching to reporting, I worked as a sub-editor at on English news desk of Online International News Agency of Pakistan. Being a mid-career journalist I also have experience of working in electronic media in Television and Radio forums.
As journalism in world is rapidly transforming into digital format, I also gained experience in digital journalism and use of social media in current era.
Along with having field experience of reporting and editing in all mediums of my filed, I also earned distinguish fellowships to enhance my professional skills. In 2018, I won United Sates Educational Foundation (USEF) backed International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) Fellowship.
In the fellowship I earned valuable experience of digital media while working in a century old US newspaper The Courier and Press, which is part of USA Today network. At national level I remained part of the trainings at Center of Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) conducted on Data Journalism at Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi.
Being a correspondent at daily The Nation, one of the oldest, well reputed and nationwide circulated newspapers, I am assigned to cover the issues of health, education, human, social and political issues.
In reporting, my strength is filing investigative stories and news features highlighting gaps in government policies and implementation of rules and regulations.
My aim in my professional career is to learn advance knowledge of journalism and adopt it in my work as every day is a new day in journalism.
