Billy Conn vs. Rocky Marciano
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by KOTF, . This one wouldn't work for Billy...but then no man at 175, or for that matter, at 200 lbs or below would be able to beat Marciano. Rocky wins by a late ko or tko. Conn can't stay away all night. Conn wouldn't look to stay all night...maybe quite the opposite. I still think the job is to big for him though. I'd be very interested over 10 rounds though. Conn is Irish guys. What's the point of being Irish if you can't be stupid.
Rocky Marciano Vs Mike Spinks
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Flea Man, . Heavyweight contest; who takes it? The awkward sharp shooting and odd combinations of Spinks befuddles and cuts Marciano, or the tenacious, accumulative punching of Marciano wears Spinks down? Both men have one shot power when they land right as well. If you feel a hypothetical light Heavyweight version of Spinks fares better with an extra ten lbs or so feel free to include this in your analysis.
Bob Fitzsimmons vs. Joe Calzaghe
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by cross_trainer, . Tiny gloves, 12 rounds, modern rules otherwise. From the perspective of pure simulation I pick Calzaghe on points. From the point of view of reality, tiny gloves destroys his chance. You got to hit Fitz HARD to keep him of and give you the chance to box him. Joe breaks a hand, Fitz wades in and KO's him in the next round, whenever that may be.
Floyd Patterson v. Ken Norton
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Maxmomer, . These two are generally in anyones top 15-30 heavyweights. They both had weak chins against big punchers, they both had good but not great power. Floyd has the handspeed advantage, Norton has a size advantage. How can their suspect chins stand up to each others power? How do you see this going down, and who takes it? Floyd Patterson wins by decision.
Marciano vs. Ali
Tough fight for both men. This is one of those true dream matchups. Marciano was so unorthodox and wild at times I sometimes chuckle as he swings for the fences, but goddamn it this guy was like a pit bull that just came at you non-stop. It was his very unorthodoxy (is there such a word?) that made him hard to nail consistently. Marciano wasn't exactly Pernell Whitaker defensively, but he was deceptively tough to hit consistently. What's more, Ali lacked the power to keep the Rock off him.
Jerry Quarry vs. Jim Braddock
quarry ud. quarry had more skills and more attributes. he could outbox braddock...if he is smart or go into an inside fight....which will become a much harder fought ud for quarry. my feelings are that braddock just cant deal with a boxer. he can chase a mover but he made up for it for being a tall guy who coudl envelope you. if you stayed behind a jab and some solid punches to keep him from getting to close to you and backing him up...chin question out the window.
Ezzard Charles 1950 v Rocky Marciano 1954
It still would have been a great fight. I dont think age got to Charles in the first fight, he fought hard and won an even number of exchanges but was overwhelmed only 3 times and that edged it for marciano. It was not like ezzard didnt have it no more. He was savage that night. Charless movement was neutralised by rockys ability to draw him into an exchange and break his rhythm. It always would have.
Strong era's that produced weak champions.
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by janitor, . There have been some to my mind. Let's have some opinions. Michael Moorer & George Foreman in 1994. And let's not even get into the ABC beltholders. James Buster Douglas in 1990. Tyson, Holyfield, Ruddock, Tucker, Dokes, Carl Williams, Witherspoon, with Bowe, Lewis, & Mercer still to come. He scores the biggest upset in boxing history and then gets knocked out in his first title defense, in a one-sided fight.
Ike Ibeabuchi vs. Floyd Patterson
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by cross_trainer, . Patterson with his charisma. Ike by KO1. And I'm not overexaggerating or being silly. I'm serious. Ike would brutally knock Floyd into next week in the 1st round. Boy more and more Ike is getting overrated. First people have him knockout a all time great like Marciano, now Patterson. Whats next?? Ike koing Ali? come on...is this how you respect the dead?? ike by 5 tko At least we all agree on Ike by KO. I would say KO in the 1st round.
Floyd Patterson vs Muhammad Ali Prime for Prime
There's two things to the back problems, though. First is that fighters always have an injury excuse when losing. Ali had several himself. The second is that Dundee said that Ali's jab was so sharp it had been giving sparring partners similar problems before the fight. It often landed high up in the face or on the forehead and therefore the spine bore the brunt. This would especially be true for someone with Floyd's forward leaning stance. And he had long standing back problems.

Vitali Klitschko vs. Max Baer
Max Baer demonstrated a fine hard jab against Schmeling. Early in the sensational first round of his bout with a peaking Joe Louis, he battered the Bomber along the ropes with wince inducing left hooks. Baer was also known for his body attack, especially his right to the ribs. While I don't believe Max quite had Shavers type power in his monstrous right, what really set him apart from Earnie was his ability to take a punch, and the capacity to drown his opponents in deep water.
Jim Corbett vs. Ingemar Johanssen
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > Classic Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by cross_trainer, Jun 17, 2007. London Prize Ring Rules. Who wins? An interesting note here is that Floyd Patterson said that Ingo hit harder then Liston, and he would have known. I have to take Ingo here because of his big right hands somewhere along the route. timmers612 said: An interesting note here is that Floyd Patterson said that Ingo hit harder then Liston, and he would have known.
