Methodist pastor who officiated son's same-sex wedding is reinstated

CNN — (CNN) -- The Pennsylvania minister who was defrocked for officiating his son's same-sex wedding was reinstated Tuesday by the United Methodist Church. Frank Schaefer, pastor at Zion United Methodist Church of Iona in Lebanon, had his credentials restored and is now entitled to lost salary and benefits since his defrocking in December, according to a written decision released by the church. Schaefer was waiting for a phone call to inform him of the church's verdict, when he received the happy news as an e-mail attachment. He opened up the PDF.

"Clinton: The Musical" will make its U.S. debut at the New York Musical Theatre Festival in July. "It's history. Sort of," the musical's tagline says on the festival's website. CNN — New York (CNN) -- A 111-year-old New Yorker who had been certified as the oldest man in the world has died. Alexander Imich died Sunday morning at a senior residence in Manhattan, his niece, Karen Bogen, confirmed to CNN. Imich was certified as the oldest man in the world this April by the Gerontology Research Group of Torrance, California. "He was remarkable," Bogen said. Alexander Imich, a New Yorker who had been certified as the world's oldest living man, died Sunday, June 8, at the age of 111. Imich was born in Poland on February 4, 1903, but fled when the Nazis took over in 1939.

CNN — (CNN) -- Philip Chism, the Massachusetts high school student who is accused of raping and killing his math teacher, allegedly attacked an employee at a youth services facility in Dorchester, where he is being held pending his trial, the Essex County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday. Chism was taken to Boston Medical Center, where a security detail was provided, said Maurice Pratt, the assistant superintendent and spokesman for the Sheriff's Department. "It's an ongoing investigation," Pratt said of Monday's attack. "The Department of Youth Services is working closely with law enforcement to investigate an assault that took place on a member of the staff," said a statement from DYS communications director Alec Loftus.

Maddox Derkosh slipped over a railing, bounced into a safety net, bounced again, and tumbled into the exhibit in November 2012. "The Derkosh family and the Zoo request that the privacy of all parties involved be respected," the statement said.

CNN — (CNN) -- The New York Police Department, the largest police force in the United States, announced Tuesday that it has received funding to equip close to 20,000 officers with naloxone, a heroin antidote that can instantly reverse the effects of an overdose. State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman declared that his office would provide the funding of more than $1.1 million to equip and train the NYPD officers as part of the Community Overdose Prevention Program. While some underwent surgery, none of the 20 fellow students and one adult stabbed died.Two victims -- one in critical but stable condition, the other in fair condition -- were still at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, on Friday, hospital spokesman Jesse Miller said. CNN — By Rande Iaboni, CNN (CNN) - A Northampton County, Pennsylvania, judge ruled Thursday against a former Lehigh University graduate student who sued to have her C-plus grade raised and for $1.3 million in damages. Judge Emil Giordano said there was no breach of contract or discrimination against former student Megan Thode in assigning the grade. Thode, the daughter of Lehigh associate professor Stephen Thode, was attending the university tuition-free in 2009 when she received a C-plus in her master's fieldwork class. Lawsuit documents said Thode maintained a B-plus on all written documents, but her instructor, Amanda Carr, gave her a zero in class participation and consequently dropped her grade to a C-plus.

Meilech Schnitzler, 36, turned himself in to police Wednesday and was charged with assault, menacing, criminal mischief, and criminal possession of a weapon. He is accused of attacking Rabbi Nuchem Rosenberg in Brooklyn's tightknit Orthodox Jewish neighborhood of Williamsburg on Tuesday. Schnitzler allegedly threw a chemical on Rosenberg's face, causing his eyes and face to burn.
