Nelson Rauda’s Biography

Nelson Rauda Zablah (El Salvador, 1991). I'm a journalist since 2013. I started my career working for La Prensa Grafica, one of the two biggest print outlets in El Salvador. I worked in the judiciary department, a busy section to report in what at the time was one of the most violent countries in the world, covering gang violence, the justice system, impunity and the police forces. In 2015, I transfered to El Faro, Central America’s first online-only newsmagazine. In 2016, I was a part of the El Faro team that won the Gabriel García Márquez Excellence Award, a prestigious award for media companies in Latin America and Spain. In 2020, I was nominated for a Gabo award in the Innovation category. My focus area has transitioned from the judiciary system, to political coverage, civil war and human rights investigations, immigration and environmental topics. I've studied specialized journalism courses in Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala and the United States. I have a degree in Social Communication from Central American University (UCA) and a diploma on Constitutional Law. My work has been published in BBC (London), ElDiario.Es, El País and Revista 21 (Spain), Los Angeles Times, The Daily Beast, The Nation (USA), and others.
