The Classic Horror Film Board-A SOUND OF THUNDER
We've updated our Privacy Policy and by continuing you're agreeing to the updated terms. Share with: Link: Member 2,3502,190 Here is a very rare print of William R. Stromberg's 1973 short A SOUND OF THUNDER, based on Ray Bradbury's short story. Special effects by Stromberg and Phil Tippett and music by the late great John W. Morgan. Bill Stromberg told me today that his dad re-edited the film a year later and John composed a new score. That version is, unfortunately, not available.
The Classic Horror Film Board-In-Jokes in Movies that Reference Other Movies
I'm watching the Martin and Lewis comedy ARTISTS AND MODELS and was surprised when a REAR WINDOW joke was made. At one point in the film the government has to keep an eye on Dean and Jerry because half of a secret equation has appeared in a comic Dino is drawing via Jerry's dreams. Cut to two guys in a window. The one on the left sports a well-worn brown hat pulled low to obscure his face. He's looking through a camera with a long lens just like Jimmy Stewart's camera in REAR WINDOW.

The Classic Horror Film Board-How Often do you Change/Rearrange your Collection?
Share with: Link: Member 1,800957 What l find so regrettable is that many collectors do not put their items on display but instead put most of the collectibles in storage boxes, never to be seen again. Of course I understand that, due to the sheer immensity of the collection, all of the items cannot be displayed at the same time. This is when changing and rearranging solves the problem of getting the full value from your collection.
The Classic Horror Film Board-THE LODGER (1932)
The first remake of Alfred Hitchcock's 1927 silent film THE LODGER exists at present only in a truncated form: a 67-minute American adumbration (complete with a more sensational title) of an 85-minute British film. Hitchcock declined the invitation to direct the production, possibly because the offer came from a less than prestigious studio, and thus directorial duties went instead to one Maurice Elvey.

The Classic Horror Film Board-THE BLACK SWAN (1942)
I can just barely justify assigning this naturalistic film a trope in my system, based only on the fact that in THE BLACK SWAN, pirates are made into the means of overcoming piracy, and thus are factors in bringing about the very civilization that moviegoers fled to theaters to escape.

The Classic Horror Film Board-The Supporting Cast of DRACULA (1931)
For better or worse, accurate and often inaccurate, IMDb has allowed cinephiles to add credits to casts for films from the silent era to the present. It astounds me, however, when a classic film has wrongly identified performers. Often, there is a failure to identify significant players. At other times roles are erroneously reversed. I have long studied the 1931 DRACULA and have probably viewed it well over 100 times. I do not profess to be an expert on it like David J.

The Classic Horror Film Board-LET 'EM HAVE IT (1935)
I just got in a very old print of a 1935 crime drama, LET 'EM HAVE IT from Edward Small and Reliance Pictures. Very interesting FBI picture (same year as G-MEN) with a fine cast. But my reason for mentioning it here is that at one point gang member Bruce Cabot decides to disguise himself with plastic surgery. Well, the doc pulls a fast one and this is the result: In addition to the image above, the doc brands Cabot with his initials.

This time round, lets take a look at the 1939 Universal chapterplay THE PHANTOM CREEPS with the one and only Bela Lugosi, star of stage, screen and rehab clinics, and the worlds most impressive looking robot (and by impressive we mean ridiculous). THE PHANTOM CREEPS also stars Robert Kent, Edward Van Sloan (!) and the ever-popular Regis Toomey.

Nov 11, 2023#422023-11-11T03:39+00:00 To quote the late great Johnny Carson: "I did not KNOW that!" I think I have a CD copy of orignal Steiner music from SHE someplace, but I didn't know about any "bonus tracks" on the Morgan and Stromberg version. I might have bought their CD for "goodies" like that! A lot of people were hoping that John Morgan and Bill Stromberg would do a CD of music from ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN, but sadly, this did not happen.
The Classic Horror Film Board-MAD LOVE (1935)
Jun 07, 2023#2822023-06-07T14:40+00:00 Just saw Peter in MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH - great work (fun to see "Count Zaroff" as a hero, too.) The man had to have been seriously intelligent - he mastered English so quickly, and so well. As evidenced in this trailer, even for the humor/vernacular. (This may support the old theory that if Bela had done that as well and as quickly, he might have had a broader career; as some have said, maybe stealing some of Paul Lukas' thunder.) - Craig
