R. Christopher Goodwin’s Biography
R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc., is widely recognized as one of the leading cultural resource consultancy firms in the United States, and its contributions to historic preservation have helped identify and preserve many important sites over the last 30 years. Having worked for civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, developers, preservation architects, research facilities, and a number of state and federal agencies in need of cultural heritage management services, Dr. R. Christopher Goodwin and the team at his firm have significant experience in finding and preserving the historical and architectural treasures of our country. As President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of Research, R. Christopher Goodwin has led the firm to earn contracts from the U.S. Department of Defense, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, including work on almost 250 military installations. The firm has also worked on preservation planning and investigations for such large-scale projects as the Baltimore's Orioles Park at Camden Yards stadium, the Baltimore Ravens’ M&T Bank Stadium, and the Washington Redskins' FedEx Field.
The team at R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc., takes particular pride in its work in the Gulf Coast region following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Responding to the complex events following the hurricane, the firm’s executives decided to keep their entire New Orleans office staff employed by taking up temporary headquarters elsewhere and moving management staff and field teams to different offices and areas around the country. Despite a main office that was literally underwater, the company managed to be one of the largest employers to keep its entire staff throughout the natural disaster. Immediately after residents of the city were allowed to return, R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc., came in to survey damaged or lost buildings and coastal and shoreline areas of interest for improving flood protection through control structures, floodwalls, and levees.
R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc., has been awarded the Preservation Project Award by the Harford County Historic Preservation Commission and the Excellence in Education award from the Maryland Historical Trust. By surveying and protecting historic properties, R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc., has helped preserve the environment for another generation.
