Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

I worked as an intern for Marnews, a magazine covering the shipping industry and international trade.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

When I was in elementary school, and I wasn't any good at it. Thank God for soft keyboards!

How is social media changing news?

Social Media is helping information travel faster by reducing the links in the information chain.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

A journalist is an interpreter of World events. We go out, and transform events into information morsels for daily consumption

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I am old school: voice-recorder, smartphone, laptop, and Microsoft office.

Who do you wish followed you?

My favorite ex-convict: Martha Stewart.

Why did you become a journalist?

I love the written word and I have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Venezuelans elections under Hugo Chávez government are the ultimate adrenaline rush, and taught me to keep my cool at all times.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Keep your eyes and ears open at all times, and always remember you are a server to your audience

When's the best time to pitch you?

Anytime is a good time. I am addicted to my profession so I welcome each and every pitch.
