Fertility Rates Keep Dropping, And It's Going To Hit The Economy Hard
Total fertility rates, which can be defined as the average number of children born to a woman who survives her reproductive years (aged 15-49), have decreased globally by about half since 1960. This has drastically shaped today’s global economy, but as Visual Capitalist's Caitlin Cheadle explains, a continued decline could have much more severe long-term consequences. If the world has too many elderly dependents and not enough workers, the burden on economic growth will be difficult to overcome.
Hans-Hermann Hoppe: "Put Your Hope In Radical Decentralization"
Via The Mises Institute, [An interview with Hans-Herman Hoppe in the Polish weekly Najwy?szy Czas!] What is your assessment of contemporary Western Europe, and in particular the EU? All major political parties in Western Europe, regardless of their different names and party programs, are nowadays committed to the same fundamental idea of democratic socialism. They use democratic elections to legitimize the taxing of productive people for the benefit of unproductive people.
Morgan Stanley: "To Make Up For A 10% Drop In The S&P, Treasury Yields Would Need To Go… Negative"
With both the S&P500 and Treasury prices hitting record highs as recently as one week ago, many have been confused (perhaps none more so than Goldman's clients as we reported yesterday), although the conventional fallback explanation that has again emerged, is a reversion back to the "Fed Model" according to which the lower yields go, the highest equity multiples should (and may) rise.
OPEC May Be Forcing Venezuela Into Regime Change
Submitted by Erwin Cifuentes via OilPrice.com, A key U.S. Congressman believes that the actions by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) regarding oil production could lead to regime change in Venezuela, according to an interview published last week. “I think ten years from now, we’ll look back at this as a positive effect, possibly on regime change in Venezuela,” said Rep.
Tuesday Humor: What's Wrong With This Chart?
Last month a new company announced that it would produce a vehicle that would totally revolutionize the U.S. transportation industry.
Weekend Reading: Intelligent Asininity
Submitted by Lance Roberts via RealInvestmentAdvice.com, This past week, the bulls pushed the markets above the downtrend resistance that has held in place since the highs of last year. Of course, while prices have been lofted higher, the deterioration of the fundamental and economic underpinnings have accelerated as reflected by the rush into bonds driving yields below 1.7% on Friday. Talk about an oxymoron.
Silver Bullion - Perfect Storm Brewing in the Market
Silver Bullion – Perfect Storm Brewing in the Market The physical silver bullion market is seeing a “perfect storm” brewing according to an article replete with some recent videos about the silver market by Rory Hall of the precious metals website, The Daily Coin. From the Daily Coin: Silver has been money longer than gold. Silver is called the “people’s money”, while gold is called the “money of kings”.
What DOJ Probe: Citadel Acquires Electronic Trading Pioneer ATD To Cement HFT Dominance
Less than a week after Reuters broke the story that the Department of Justice is probing HFT powerhouse Citadel, which admits it executes 35% of all trades by retail investors in U.S.-listed stocks, whether it is also frontrunning those orders (an allegation that many are convinced is a rock-solid fact) we find that billionaire Ken Griffin is not at all concerned about the outcome of the investigation on his core business model and is instead expanding.
"Erdogan Is The Father Of ISIS" - New Documentary Outlines Turkey's Support Of The Islamic State
Is Turkey the support behind ISIS? A documentary released by RT lays out evidence that would lead to that conclusion... one we first exposed here, here, and here... and is interestingly timed given Europe's potential desire to regain some leverage over Erdogan. The documentary takes place just days after the YPG took back the town of Shaddadi (a former ISIS stronghold), and what is revealed will most certainly go under reported, but is important nonetheless.
First Panama Papers Casualty? Former Iceland Premier Calls On Current Prime Minister To Resign To "Prevent An Uprising"
One of the more prominent names featured in the Panama Papers disclosure is that of Iceland's Prime Minister Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson. The reason is that according to the leaked files, Prime Minister Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson and his wife secretly owned a company called Wintris set up in 2007 on the Caribbean island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, to hold investments with his wealthy partner, later wife, Anna Sigurlaug Pálsdóttir.
Deutsche Bank: Negative Rates Confirm The Failure Of Globalization
Negative interest rates may or may not be a thing of the past (many thought that the ECB had learned its lesson, and then Vitor Constancio wrote a blog post showing that the ECB hasn't learned a damn thing), but the confusion about their significance remains.
A hunter’s perspective on killing wolf
I used to be a member of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association (MDHA), the largest deer hunting advocacy group in the state. I started deer hunting as an adult as a way to harvest meat for my families’ consumption. Not long after joining MHDA they started sending emails promoting wolf killing. I also noticed that on their website there was a lot of talk about supporting the upcoming wolf season. That really bothered me since I thought the group was group focused on deer.
